Rear window doesn't go down all the way

I just noticed today that my rear window has about an inch sticking out when it's rolled down. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to go all the way down, but it stops pretty firmly with an inch sticking out. This isn't normal is it?

Just need confirmation before I head to the dealer.

On my 2012 TE there is about 1/4" of the window exposed when it is rolled down fully. It sure doesn't seem like this should be the case - I wonder if there is a calibration that needs to be done?

Yea, I went ahead and scheduled an appointment with Toyota on Monday at 0715... ugh. I'll let you guys know what they say!

Yea, I'm sure its suppose to go all the way down. The rear window roll down has ALWAYS been one of the key selling points for any T4R given its already more than capable utility. It really may be a simple fix. I see you're driving a 2011 so it SHOULD still be under warranty. Probably just need to have a dealer replace a servo motor. Even then, you could leave it as is and do something moderately cool and get like some sort of cool adhesive sticker to go across the very top of the glass. Of course...when its rolled up it won't be displayed but rolled down it'd look cool. Just my 2¢

Dealer called me today and told me that they needed to order another motor/regulator to fix it. They couldn't find out what was wrong, so they had to pull one of the 4runners off the lot to compare the two.

Long story short, they said the parts will be in tomorrow morning and they should be able to fix it. I'll let you all know how it turns out!

I just picked up my 2012 limited today and back window does not go all the way down. Maybe 1/2 to 1 inch still exposed. Dealer said that is the case for the 2012. Didn't buy what he was saying and told them I would check on it and have to bring it back.

Any updates?

Just picked up my 4runner from the dealership today. Window rolls all the way down and everything works as advertised now. They just replaced the regulator and motor.

2 days to order parts. Swapped it out same day. Best of all it costed $0.00

I am thinking that I should go roll mine down now. I don't think I have ever even touched that button. LOL

That's kind of wierd that so many are not going down the whole way lately. I'm wondering if these back window regulators weren't initialized correctly at the port or the dealer. They come across the pond with the short pin fuse uninstalled so the battery won't go dead and are supposed to be initialized as part of the pre-delivery service. There is actually a ECU for the back door.

After they install the short pin they are supposed to roll the window down the whole way ,hold for one second then up the whole way and hold for 6 seconds per the oem repair manual. That sets the up and down limits for the regulators. The same thing goes for the drivers window and moon roof to reset jam protection, especially if you put on deflectors. This SB I found describes it a little different.

Or maybe there really is a bad batch of regulators but for over 2 years we never heard of this problem!:uzi:

What a bunch of BS. I'd get your SERVICE MANAGER involved, clearly someone is a moron there. I've never seen a 4runner rear window that didn't go completely flush. I'd definitely call them on that BS.
