Rear Window Problems 1993

I have a 1993 4runner. With the 22re, stick shift, and 4x4 its the best truck I've had. The only power window is the back. Sadly last night I came out of the movie theater to find my window open a fair amount. After trying my keys at the back, and having no success, I started the truck and tried the toggle button on the console, no luck. So I had another look at it in the morning with more light and I noticed that the volt meter on the dash doesn't move when I hit the toggle switch. I made sure the window lock was not on. There is no noise from the motor in the back, dead silence.

I have managed to get the back cover off the rear door from the inside and then pop the door open, but now there's this god awful beeping that wont stop even when I close the door.

I'm sure that I'm going to have to buy parts, but what can i do in the mean time to close the window completely?

The 2 things I have had go bad on the tailgate window (on a 92 sr5 with power on all 6 windows) are one of the relays in the controller (in the body panel on the driver's side just up from the storage in the rear) and now the power motor (just replaced with a pull from a 95 rear driver's side motor).

In both cases it was something that slowly went out, with it getting more and more finicky, often with colder weather. The last straw on the relay was when we were headed to Yosemite for the weekend with friends, so had the back full, it was raining, and we were going to be in the snow….and the rear window wouldn't go up. With the motor, it was dealing with it when skiing.

If yours just dropped all of the sudden, it sounds more like it came off the regulator (metal apparatus that gets power from the motor and pushes the window up and down). I'd try to check that out first.

If it's not off the regulator, one thing you could try is putting power direct from the battery onto the motor wires. There's only 2 wires, and power one way makes it go up, and the other way makes it go down. If that works, it could be the relay, or could be a bad connection. I'm thinking it's not the relay box since there are separate relays for having it go up vs having it go down, and it's unlikely they would both go out. And that shouldn't cause the window to be down partway when you came back.
