Rear Window Shattered. For NO REASON!

I know the "known issue" was mentioned, but i received a letter from toyota on the recall. I don't have access to the letter now, but i know it mentioned occurrences when the rear defroster waa bring used. I forget the other details like mileage or time windows for contacting a dealer for repairs.... but I think it was more of a warranty extension thing as opposed to a recall.... FYI

This just happened on my '05 yesterday. We just had snow, rare here in GA, and I was driving with the rear defroster on. It just exploded.
Anyone know if Toyota would still cover this?

Don't know for certain but it's unlikely b/c their special extended warranty coverage ended quite some time ago. But I'd try anyway; all they can say is no. You might start with a local dealer service manager and work your way up to Toyota regional and so on. Be sure you print the service bulletin and the extended warranty info.

FWIW, I only use my rear defroster in 30-45 second intervals, for example when the side mirrors are fogged (since the switch operates the heated mirrors and the rear defroster). I keep my finger on the switch to be sure I don't get distracted and leave it on. I wish I had thought to check my wiring when I had the hatch disassembled to work on the rust inside it.
