Rear window stopped working

So my rear window decided to stop working a couple months ago for no apparent reason. Fuses are OK, and I've pulled the motor and it works fine on direct power. I don't have experience with electrical issues, nor do I have the time to pull everything apart to check the wiring between the console switch and the back window. (rear wiper works fine, so power is getting to there anyway).

Can anyone recommend some place or someone in San Diego (or Socal) that could work on this?

What year Escalade are we talking about here? A problem well-stated is a problem almost solved.
Where in San Diego are you?

WILL YOU HAVE TIME TO TRY THIS?
Disconnect the connector that goes to the rear wiper assembly and let us know what happens.


How did you check fuses? Visual or with a multi-meter? The multi-meter is the most important electrical diagnostic tool, next only to our senses. $6 will get you one at Harbor Freight.

so did a little detective work and found a post from 2-3 years ago, sounds like he might have an 87.

Like Rad4Runner (electrical genious BTW) said, helps to know what you are working on. my crystal ball broke a few years ago but had a minute to look at your old posts.

You don't have time to check if you can operate it with tailgate key switch?
You don't have time to unplug connector at rear wiper assembly?

I can give you names, not recommend, two of the most well-reviewed shops in SD who have disappointed me.
My recommendation is to do it yourself so it is done right.

Yeah, I spose the year might have been important. 1987 was a good bit of sleuthing!

It had been sitting, undriven, for about two months when it stopped working. Battery was dead, charged that and everything fired up fine. Except the rear window.

Key switch was the first thing I tried when it konked out. No-go.

I pulled the wiper connector when I fiddled with it last month, didn't change anything. Will double check the next time I can get into it.

Did a visual on the fuses. Guess I should try the multi-meter next...

Meanwhile, check the flex harness between body and tailgate for broken wires.

If you have time to have easy access to control relay (near drivers seatbelt mechanism), and cover top OFF switch (behind rear panel to left of roll-bar), we meet here and quickly check it out

I have a 95 4runner so im not sure what would be the difference but this happened with mine a while ago, theres a 30amp fuse underneath the driver side kick panel but its farther up towards the firewall. On mine it was a female fuse that was pink, like I said im not sure the exact differences or where this fuse would be on your truck. If that fuse is fine then check the switch itself. This was the other problem with mine and I just went to Orileys to pick up a simple on-off-on switch and now my window works great. Also that same 30 amp fuse is wired to your sunroof so if you have any problems with your sunroof also thats where the fuse for that is. :usa2:
