Rear Window!

This rear window is annoying.

It WILL
-Go down with the key in the gate
-Go up/down with 12v direct to motor
-Rear wiper does park correctly
It WILL NOT
-Go up or down with the cabin switch(I think it may be the switch not sure)
-Go up with the gate key lock

It has been about 15 degrees every time I work on this thing and I am getting progressively more fed up with it! Any help is appreciated

Been there done that. Check the wires between the body and the door. Guarantee you will find a couple broken wires.

When you have the key in the tailgate, does it sound like it's trying to push up or is it completely dead?

If it sounds like it's trying to crank and the wiring looks intact, I would say that the relays for the window motor have given up. I replaced mine with slightly more powerful relays (7A vs. 5A). The board is accessible behind the driver's side storage compartment in the back. I desoldered the relays, placed the new ones in, resoldered, and the window motor was much more 'lively' than before.

The part number for the relays is SRD-S-112D from Sanyou, I bought them on eBay for $5 for both of them. If you're ever close to Cincinnati, come on over and I'll give you the extras they sent me by accident. Bring beer and I'll install them.

With the key trying to raise the window it acts dead. The relay does not click. I also forgot to mention that I already replaced the relays in the power window relay box behind the driver's tail light so it's not that... But thanks for the offer to put em' in for me ha! Any specific wires I should be checking besides the obvious?

perhaps its just the switch itself.

my key switch had issues, it would go down, but only sometimes up. the switch was the problem.


as to the interior switch, if its still down on the console, where everything gets spilled on it, its either bad, or just dirty. pull it and clean it.

I had the same issue on my 87. It ended up the console switch was bad. With a bad switch, the key will be inoperable, at least in the 1st gens.

I though this part might be the problem as well. I was going to test it but got sidetracked. I can't check the truck now, but is the key switch part of the lock cylinder? Or can I just snag a switch and keep the same cylinder I have?

I think its all the same. Last I checked, it was an expensive switch.
