Rear wiper arm replacement.

Hey, guys. I need to replace the rear wiper arm on my 2005 Sport Edition. I think one of my boys wailed on it and stripped it from the wiper motor spindle. Has anyone got any advice about how to get the interior panel off the tailgate without damaging it? I also need to know whether I will be able to replace the spindle in the wiper motor or will I need to replace the whole unit. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Do a search for replacing the rear window. I remember a guy replacing his about 2 months ago after his defroster blew up the glass. He posted a how-to on the replacement that included tearing apart the back hatch.

Taking off the panel isn't too tough (sorry I don't have a writeup handy), did you make sure that it's not just the wiper arm that's stripped out? You might be able to get away with just replacing that. However, I'd recommend you buy the OEM blade and arm because I replaced them with an Amazon brand arm and AutoZone wiper and it was ABSOLUTELY GARBAGE! Still haven't gotten around to replacing it, but it ticks me off every time I look at it.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Spring has finally arrived in the NE so I'll check these tips out and see if I can git-er-dun!! I'll let you know how I make out.
Cheers!

No good deed goes unpunished!

So, in trying to get the wiper arm off I sheared off the retaining bolt! Now Ive got to see if I can get a teeny weeny Easy Out to remove it. So with the new arm an Easy Out set and a new wiper blade I'll be out 60 bucks! I know...I know....WAAAAAHH!

I am a bit confused. The rear wiper arm attaches to the motor via a tapered/grooved shaft and the end of the shaft is threaded. There is a nut that tightens on the shaft to hold the base of the wiper arm on the tapered shaft. What bolt are you talking about? If you snapped the threaded end of the tapered shaft off while trying to remove the retaining nut, then you will probably need to replace the entire motor, since I don't believe the shaft alone is a replaceable item.

Where the little cloth pull handle is on the inside of the tailgate there's a 10 mm bold holding it on. Unblolt that and the rest is just clips. I think it's grooved at the top to hold it in so keep that in mind too. Be careful with it off, there's a control unit/ computer under there so be careful with the vapor barrier if you take it off, you really don't want moisture in there.

When I replaced mine the arm came off, but the metal insert on the arm stayed. I couldn't get it off for anything. Finally had to cut it most of the way down two sides with a dremel cutoff wheel and break it the rest of the way with a screwdriver. NOT fun.
