So I had a person contact me recently who was installing locking 3rd members in the front and rear of their 4Runner and for some reason they messed with the ADD Actuator. Long story short, they have a plethora of lights and when trying to shift the vehicle into 4WD it defaults to Neutral.
From what I gathered, it seems they either damaged and/or messed with the timing on the ADD Actuator and now the 4WD system is no longer sure where it is in gear when shifting and defaults to Neutral to protect the system.
I know a couple members have played with their ADD Actuators with some success so I am hoping they could chime in if they have pictures/procedure on how to do so? You'd think Toyota would have the data, but from a factory stand point they consider the units sealed and non-serviceable so at this point if they brought it to my dealership we'd just tell them the differentials need to be returned to stock and the actuator needs to be replaced (assuming that's the issue), which sucks; but that's unfortunately how Toyota expects us to handle it. I also don't have a spare ADD laying about to test and play with...
I believe I saw a thread by [MENTION=102742]scw1991[/MENTION] , but it didn't have much information in terms of actually timing it. Any input on the matter would be great to have for posterity and helping a fellow forum member out.
