Rec towing of a 5th gen T4R...

I have a MH and would like to occasionally tow my 2010 T4R along for the "ride". The manual does not completely address the subject of long distance towing, but alludes to "emergency towing" when necessary.

Generally, most AT equipped vehicles are not towable [4-down] unless equipped with some combo of driveshaft disconnect(s), auto lube systems for the AT, flat bed trailer, etc.

Now with the SR5 4Runner, I've got to ask: "what's the purpose of having a neutral position in the transfer case if not for disengaging the vehicle's driveline?" Would this not make the vehicle suitable for 4-down towing?

Anybody on the forum have some real life experience(s) with towing a 5th gen 4Runner?:thanks:

Discussed before... answer is no. Use search for more details. I seem to recall someone quoting the owner's manual as "not recommended without a driveshaft disconnect".

A friend of mine with an RV just went through this selection process. He received a list of vehicles specifically recommended by an RV web site (don't know which one) for towing. He bought a Honda CRV because it best matched his needs.

He considered a 4Runner. But, it is definitely not on the list.

Since the 4runner has a Neutral selection in the transfer case wouldn't you be able to tow it?

I have a Tacoma, and if I put it in 1st gear, and put the transfer case in Neutral. I am able to freely push the truck.

Wouldnt it be the same case for the 4runner?
