Recommend new Deck/Head Unit

Is there a difference between wanting a new Deck/ Head Unit?

Right now i have the factory deck installed. 054R. If i put in a new deck... what will happen to that sounds surround feature?? or will all the speakers just be one at the same time.

Anyways help reccommend me a deck to put in. I would like it to have ipod connection as well.

I apologize for not being clear enough, i guess i wasn't totally thinking it all the way through.

I have 054R sport edition. factory JBL system.

I want a new deck that will work with the steering wheel controls and can interface with Ipod.. other storage devices are optional. I don't know why you would need blue tooth in the deck?

The sounds around feature is basically there's a speaker in the middle of the dash.. in the front and when you turn it surround sound on that basically turns on and you can hear the music better.

youre going to have to give us more details than that. I presume you have the JBL sound package, which has a surround sound feature/mode. Technically, if you are surrounded by speakers, you have surround sound.

to answer your first question, deck and headunit are used interchangeably, as far as i know.

As far as the "surround sound" feature, it will have to be a feature of your new deck. The aftermarket deck is what determines if theres any offset in the signals that go to various speakers etc. You will still have the JBL amps driving the speakers and will still be able to get amazing sound out of a new deck. Most aftermarket decks have features that allow you to fine tune the output so that it sounds best with your speaker setup and to your preferences.

As far as recommendations for a new deck, theres hundreds out there man. You gotta clarify what types of features youre looking for. For me, I wanted a system with a navigation screen and the ability to play mp3's off some sort of mass storage device. Built in bluetooth was also on my list but not as necessary. I settled on the Pioneer F700bt, got it for $425 including tax and shipping. I can load up an SD card or a USB flash drive full of music and movies and have all my media at my fingertips. It also has gps navigation and bluetooth integration. To install any aftermarket deck youll need an adapter (~$80), a dash trim kit ($20), and add $40 if you want to use your steering wheel controls.

If youre just wanting Ipod playback you can get an adapter for your stock deck for around $70

You could look at the Scion unit, that has iPod interface and should still work with your steering wheel controls IIRC, they can be had for quite a bit less than a new aftermarket if you DYODD.
