Recommendations for jacks & jack stands?

Can anyone make some recommendations or offer opinions on jacks and jack stands?

What are you using? What would you avoid?

(I'll be installing a Daystar 2.5/1.5 kit on my 2012 TE soon... and I'm tired of borrowing jacks/stands.)

I use this jack:

Low Profile Floor Jack - 2 Ton, Rapid Pump® Jack

It has a 24" lift height so its tall enough for use with a lifted T4R.

Both of these jack stands work fine with a 24" max height:

6 Ton Jack Stand Set

12 Ton Jack Stands
 
I like the double locking jack stands. Basically it is the ratcheting type with a safety bar you can install to lock it in place.

I have a set branded goodyear I got from Sam's years ago, but they are no longer sold there. I matched them with the similar Torin Branded stands that are still available.

I have never found a great jack. I still have the craftsman branded jack I purchased like 15 years ago. They all seem to be overseas made and of limited quality....

Been using it for several years, and I have no complaints, other than the weight of the thing when I have to lift it (over 100 lbs). I also have their 6 and 12 ton jack stands, which are similarly beefy, and have good height for working on trucks and SUVs.
 
I just received this hybrid Steel/Aluminum 3-Ton jack. Has the cool extra-long padded handle that twists, and a padded cup that proved its usefulness today. It ain't light, but is lighter than an all-steel version would be...

It was $149, but 1-day shipping was only $4 through Amazon Prime :) Perfect timing!

I specifically bought it to install my 5100's and rear spring spacer today (jack arrived yesterday). Worked like a charm, and is certainly better than the cheapo-jacks I've been using up till now. Highly recommended by yours truly.

Find someone with a costco membership. Their 3.25 ton jack is 100 bucks and is a beast. Torin jack stands - either 3 ton SUV or the 6 ton.

Howdy! Nope - No guides. I searched around here for a few quick pointers, but didn't look too hard (searching reveals hundreds of threads - you'll have to look through them to find anything relevant). I swapped the coilovers and rear shocks on my old '99 Tacoma about 5 years ago, and also did lots of work to my old-old '87 T4R back in the 90's, so this wasn't my first attempt. I replied in your other thread...

I agree on the jack,as they sell Arcan's and are rated as some of the best for the money. I've had an Arcan one for years and no problems and lifts from 3 1/2" all the way to 21 3/8" which comes in handy with a lifted truck .This is the one I have ........http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200345429_200345429
It's a heavy beast though! Got a few junk Torins laying around that the seals leaked after a couple of years.

Biggest advice - dont cheap out. A good buddy of mine was killed about 5 years ago when his truck fell off his jack stands and crushed him. It was a very sobering event for me and all my gear head buddies that crawl under our trucks all the time. I have Torin stuff, and I've gotten in the habit of shaking the sh!t out of the truck when I have it on the stands to ensure it doesn't fall off before I crawl underneath.
 
I needed a new jack and went with the 3ton Maasdam from Home Depot. Killer price, and it almost reaches the frame rails on my lifted '85. It should be fine for a 5th gen or nearly anything else for that matter.

Like Hella said, don't cheap out on stands (and don't forget the wheel chocks). You want name brand heavyweight stands with a wide base. I much prefer the pin style jack stands, personally... I imagine the lever being bumped or the catch breaking on the ratcheting stands and they give me the willies.
 
Wondering what jacks do most of you have on your rigs other than the hi-lift jacks???

Whatever you get, I suggest more than 4.

Load capacity is important, but redundancy even more so. Redundancy also helps take care of the ambiguous quality issue.

I use 6 stands. 4 on the corners and an extra 2 under whichever end I'm working.
 
Bump. Also, does anyone have any good bottle jacks, aside from the stock one provided (good but it's a pain in the ass to wind vs. pumping a regular bottle jack)? I tried the torin 4 ton's and it didn't reach the jacking locations even while fully extended...

Edit: Anyone familiar with Powerbuilt jacks? I found this on Amazon.

Great thread, thanks for the information. I purchased a set of Torin 3 ton double locking jack stands and first job is tire rotation.

Is it safe to set the front two jacks stands then jack up one of the rear sides? I want to rotate the tires but would only have 2 stands and 2 jacks (one from my wife's car) and didn't know if I could jack the entire thing up, all 4 wheels off the ground, with this equipment.
