Recommendations for Subwoofer

Hello all,

I reduced my system from 2 subs to 1, presently i have a JBL GTX-10 sub in a single bandpass box. I reduced the amount of subs to increase cargo space. I have about 300W going to the sub, I have had these subs for many years so may upgrade soon. Anyone have recommedations on what I should look into? I was looking at JL Audio. I ultimately want an efficient sub that is not that power hungry. Plus i dont feel like this sub is as loud as it should be...with just 1 installed :( Thanks for the help

live4swell,

JL Audio makes the best subs i think. They are not the most efficient, but their bass is quality (very clean & tight). If you do go for JL, make sure to get a high quality amp with plenty power. For the 4runner, you will need a 10" at least. An 8" may not provide the power that YOU are looking for.

If you want more space, then consider the Kicker square subs. According to Kicker, an 8" square sub is just as powerful as a 10" round sub. I think Kicker subs are a notch below JL Audio, but they are well above average. Again, get a good quality amp.

If you want something more compact, i would recommend checking out the Infiniti BassLink, which has a 10" radiator type sub that is SELF-amplified (thus, saving you more space). I have heard very good reviews of it.

Here is a link to the BassLink:

You can find it on the internet for around $200-300.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, i think i am gonna go with JL...another question, do you know how Boss Subs are? I have seen them real cheap and some things i have read about them, people liked them...do you know anything about them?

Boss is not a high quality brandname. I would NOT recommend it. I don't think you will like IF you want quality bass. Boss amps are also cheap (cost & materials).

Quality costs money.

Your good with JL subs.... Personally, I just got 2 Alpine 12" Type R subwoofers. Im gonna be running a 1500 watt amp into them..... Its gonna be a crazy amount of bass.

I'm currently using an edesigns K series sub. 1 cube sealed with 300w. I'm very happy with it though I may switch to a ported enclosure soon. From what I hear, they are comparable to the JL but very affordable. The A series are very good too.

Im no expert but I heard it kinda depends on what kinda music you listen to...

For fast beat like rock you want something like 2 8's or 2 10's

For rap which is usually slower its better to have something like a 12 or 10.

Smaller subs can move faster for faster beats.

Just my theory....

PS> What kinda of head unit are you running?

Ill have the Bass link installed on january 11th... Santa is bringing it to me for christmas.

I can let you know how it compared to my Kicker 12" XPL

Alumapro

If you are looking for a nice clean bump...Alumapro Alchemy series rocks...I used to compete in audio competitions and always placed with these woofers....I know they aren't very well known and that is because they are mainly used in competition. If you want straight bump, then go with JL audio W7 series. I also used to win competitions with Image Dynamics IDQ 12's in the trunk. My favorite out of all three is Alumapro now that I want bass but not over-powering bass and alumapro offers a very clean bass sound...
