Recommended Stereo/GPS replacment?

Pioneer did just come out with a whole new lineup of double-dins. I however might be heading towards the App Radio. I use my iPhone for everything. I never listen to CDs anymore. It's either that or the new AVH-P4400BH.
 
The AVH-P4400BH looks almost perfect, but it doesn't have GPS, does it? I didn't see that listed as one of the options. The App Radio sounds good, but I don't have a Blackberry and not an iPhone because of work.

No it doesn't have GPS but with AppMode it works with a couple GPS apps and syncs to the deck. Pretty neat. You can always add GPS to it down the line with the module and stuff though.
 
Looking on Pioneer's website, it looks like they have an upcoming AppRadio2 (SPH-DA100) and the AVH-8400BH, so I'm trying to figure out which is a better unit for me.

It looks like the AppRadio2 doesn't have a CD slot, or a microSD (only for firmware updates), but is otherwise optimized for use with the Iphone and select Android devices (nice to see).

The AVH-8400 plays DVD's and other disc-media, has 2x rear USB's, but I'm not clear if you can use iphone based GPS programs on it.

Both units look very interesting, wish I could find more info on both of them!
 
I noticed the latest Pioneer DblDIN decks have AppRadio integrated and an actual DVD/CD disk player, but only list iPhone. Do they do Android too?

I've decided to go with the Eclipse AVN...although i'm not sure what model yet. Quick two question though...

Will it still operate the automatic antenna or will I need to buy another one?

Where did you run your GPS antenna to? Does it have to go on the outside?

I can't speak for the other AVN units. Only mine, but here's the answer to your two questions.

1. Yes, it still will run the power antenna.

2. I ran mine under the glove box and then over the dash. It rests just above my speedo. Never had an issue with reception.

maybe A.Wilsion will chime in. He's got two different AVN units.
 
I do really like the look of that Pioneer on the first page and an Android app would be pretty cool as well.

Don't write off all single DINs though! For $350 you can get a lot more audio out of a single DIN Alpine or Kenwood Excellon. :hiding:

I picked up this used Alpine for $99 and bought a brand new faceplate for $95 on EBAY.

It has all of these features + Alpine will repair recertify any deck for only $100 + they give out a warranty.

It does not do BlueTooth audio (yawn ... sounds terrible anyways if you are running Kappas); no High-Def radio :( I would really like that.



Alpine 9835 Features (2004)

1) Tilting faceplate (big deal on 4Runner, means no glare)

3) Nice large sturdy buttons that don't feel cheap

Wow, you got a good deal. I had a Tacoma with the little shelf under the stereo and I always used it. I'm really looking for a GPS unit though. I like the look of yours though. :)
 
Silly question, but what are you using for that thin rubber matting on the bottom shelf below your headunit? I need one now that I have an iPod hookup and don't want it to slide all over.

Cool tilt feature! I think I have the Alpine 9857 now, I need to check.

It is standard non-stick matting from Home Depot, usually purchased in a 24" wide roll.

I attached with simple double sided scotch tape from Staples.
