Red-Runner getting built

I definitely know what you mean about the sc whine. It was cool at first, but it does get annoying especially since I often have the radio low with my wife and daughter in the car. Worth it though when I step on the gas. Also did you get the 2.2 pulley? My 7th kit should be arriving any day and I'm debating going to the 2.2 right away.

I like the idea of more power with the 2.2 as well but keep in mind the whine will be slightly louder with it.

Tuned, rewired, and lit up

Truck is tuned (mostly) - I think I'll do some more tweaking for sure, but running very well at the moment. Dyno sheet below. I also installed a wideband O2 sensor, so I'm able to view/log AFR.

...and tonight I wired all of my accessories to a fuse block, and then installed ditch lights. Pic below.

I did get the 2.2 pulley. It is a little louder, but the main thing is the quality of the sound is very different than the stock pulley. Hard to explain, but it's not the same high-pitched wind-up. Honestly think I would have been happy with just the stock setup, but I'm happily tuned now, and I know a helluva lot more about my engine than when I started this process.

is that dyno sheet from an actual run on a dyno? or one of those in phone app shit?

If it is from a dyno, great new numbers. Looks like a pretty huge improvement from the first to the second?

Is that before and after the 2.2 pulley?

Real Dyno. The numbers are before/after tune (same pulley, etc.). It was leaning out very badly on the stock 7th injector maps, so we added a bunch of fuel at higher RPMs and knocked down timing at lower RPMs (where it was getting spark knock).

Daylight pics of ditch lights.

Daylight pics of new ditch lights. They are Baja Designs Squadron Sport (hybrid pattern).

tuning went a long way for you haha

Truck Haven - 2/15/2015

Ran around at Truck Haven today. I've been there before for TDS, but too crowded to run any obstacles. Ran some today (admittedly the easier ones). Anyway:

Truck looks awesome man. Super jealous of that amazing HP jump.

Thanks, man.

I did put the stock pulley back on this afternoon when we got back. I feel like I can't get the truck quite right with the 2.2" pulley, and I don't want to risk another engine. I'm not saying it's not possible, but with my engine, my poor tuning skills, and wheeling mostly at sea level, I think I'm better off with less boost.

Very nice build. I just read through the whole thing and you've got an awesome truck. I really like the red, I don't think I've ever seen a 3rd gen in that color, and yours looks awesome like that with the black and red accents. Keep it up!

No updates really. I love the extra light filling in the truck's flanks. Makes a big difference in confidence. They also provided an unexpected benefit - since they aren't aimed straight ahead, they do better in heavy dust than my lightbar; last trip I used the ditch lights by themselves most of the evenings and I could see well through the heavy dust.

I've been getting a CEL for a knock sensor since the last trip though. I bought a new harness (and have a couple spare sensors from the engine swap), but need to pull some stuff apart to get to it. It's definitely wires or sensor; not a real knocking issue.

Truck is running better than ever with the code cleared, but when that light goes off, it runs like garbage, so I'm not driving too much till I get around to fixing it. It should be better before TDS this coming weekend.

I did a couple other things - new NGK plug wires, new console lid (LOL), fuel filter (I thought I'd already done fuel filter with engine swap, but clearly was the old one). Just slowly replacing everything that is old. Probably do steering soon, and I need to get armor for the fuel tank, and dual battery setup shortly, and...always something.

...almost sold her, but I just couldn't pull the trigger. Too much love for this truck.

So...I need a paint job. The big question is what color? Interior is black and tan. I don't want to keep the stock color. I think I want something a little more modern.

Any suggestions?

Happy you're keeping it as too many epic 4Runners have been going up for sale recently. I think either a factory color of your choosing or like a dark charcoal would be pretty badass.
