RedRunner's 2016 SR5 Build and Adventure Thread

Interested in the results! I have used Super Tech, now Shell Rotella because I got a bunch for free, but have been eyeing Kirkland as well because of the price.

I will post the results on here. So far I am really liking the Kirkland. I have about 200 miles on it and it is running pretty smooth though. No extreme low temperatures to see how it does on cold starts yet though. My Rotella had some hard miles on her though. I did a week long overlanding trip in the high 90's, with some slow speed driving. Also did some driving in negative degree weather. So I will be interested to see how it handled all of that.

First sample was Amsoil but it was pretty much all highway, since I was commuting pretty from work. Second sample was Shell Rotella but did have a lot of off-roading and overloading involved. Also I now live 3 miles from work, so not sure if that effects it at all.

Decided to re-do all my wiring for the ditch lights. That included pulling all the connectors I used and then soldering them together and heat shrinking them. Downside, I just moved and couldn't find my extension cord, so I had to make do. Also tested out the free light bar I got. Going to try to mount it in the upper grill and get rid of the raptor lights.

A little camping mod done. This mod serves two purposes, 1) I lost the remote and the light is super bright. Hoping it will dull it out. 2) I am hoping the red will keep the bugs away from my windows and not kill our night vision

I did about 5 coats. It is a little more pink/white than I wanted, so hopefully it achieves the goal I want it to.

I received a free 28" light bar and my plan is to try to squeeze it into the upper grill area. I didn't really want a white light so I decided to change it to yellow with Lamin-x. I ordered a 2"x30" strip and was able to cut it in half and use two strips to darken the yellow. The light bar has a remote and offers 3 output levels and a few different strobe settings.

Got this light bar for free. Put a couple Lamin-x strips on it and tried to mount it in the upper grill. That was a no go, so I found this Rago Hidden Mount with the bar for a steal of the price. Didn't realize he was selling the lights with them as well. So I have to figure that out as well.

1) That is the stock spare. From my research you can run the stock size spare on the front, as long as you are not running 4WD. I drove home 600+ miles like that and had no issues. I will be getting a full size spare this winter.

2) I have no rubbing at all. I was rubbing the Body Mount before the lift with 255/80's and wheel spacers. But with the lift I am not rubbing at all.

3) I waited I think 2 weeks before I did an alignment. I wanted the front to settle a little bit.

I too am looking at going with 255/80r17 or staying with stock 265/70r17. Ironman lift is on backorder for another month. Tire sale right now, so I need to make a decision on tire size. Is the rubbing with the 255/80 only mild? Could I use them without lift and no rubbing if I only drive on the road until lift comes in and not making hard turns? Do you still like the Ironman CFP suspension? Is there a mild rake after settling?

The only rubbing I had prior to the Spidertrax was the front mud flaps. You could either heat them up and mold them or did I do and remove them. After that I was good to go.

I do really like them. With the Performance springs I settled to 22.5" up front and 24" rear. So like a 1.5" of rake.

We did a birthday run in Woodland Park, CO. We hit up Rampart Range Road, Hotel and Missouri Gulch and ended it in Mini Mob. It was definitely a fun and challenging run. I haven't hit dirt in soooo long, so it was nice to get out.

Great Western Trail: Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana

Night 1/Day1/Night 2

The Great Western Trail goes from the border of Mexico in Arizona to the border of Canada in Montana. We decided to meet just East of Salina, UT and head North from there. Our overall goal was to hit the Canadian border and hit Grand Teton, Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks.

All packed up and ready to head our first camping spot. No off-roading today. Just meeting my friend in outside of Salina.

Still in Utah! We definitely are not progressing as fast as we want to. We covering approximately 200 miles a day at this point, but we didn't expect to spend two days in Utah.

Great Western Trail Day 3/Night 4

Finally we get out of Utah and into Idaho! We ventured out a little longer than we anticipated because of some mechanical issues. But we made it to camp in the forest of Idaho

...and we are off!

At some point my buddies Tacoma picked up a wood screw in his Passenger Rear tire. We were debating swapping it or patching it. We learned real quick on the trail on how to patch a tire. Took us two attempts on the trail to get it to hold, then we patched it a third time at camp and finally held air without leaking.

Great Western Trail Day 4/Night 5

We get to our first National Park! The Great Western Trail skirts around Yellowstone but does require you to go through Grand Teton NP. We decided to go through the park, then back track a little bit and camp in the forest outside of the park.

Time to hit the road again!

Glad we got some rain overnight, it cleared up the skies a little bit. We were able to get some good views of the Grand Teton. We had to go back through Grand Teton and began our trek towards West Yellowstone.

Since we had to had back to Colorado on Friday, we decided to backtrack to West Yellowstone and then explore Yellowstone NP on Thursday. It was already a 12 hour drive from Yellowstone so we didn't want to venture any further.
