Refurbishing rims, need your help

Hi all,

Just got LC80 rims for my 4runner and want to spruce them up.
What do I use? Sand blasting? Sand paper?
I like the natural (aluminum) look of them but would mind some cool paint.
Please, let me know if you can.

PS the rim on the right has some kind primer and want to get it off.

There are numerous ways to get it done. If you are going to repaint, there really isn't a need to get to bare metal. Smooth everything with sandpaper. then prime and make sure its even before adding top coat. You could also sandblast all the way to metal, then just clear coat. It all depends on how much time you want to spend.

Think outside the box a bit, Igoboe. There have been some sweet wheel mods done in here, with the rim different from the rest, or the space between/behind the spokes different from the face, etc. Another one to consider, especially since you like the aluminum look, would be to paint between the spokes (maybe the color of your truck), then leave the face of the spokes natural, with a nice clear coat to finish. Just some thoughts.

What is the difference between sandblasting and media blasting? Soda blasting?

If you want to completely strip the rims go to a hvac supply and ask for coil cleaner, this is a acid that is mixed with water and sprayed on.
It foams (this pushes dirt out of the coils on a condenser ) let it sit for a few minutes and rinse with water the rim will be bare metal and really bright.
I did this on my Old Scout rims and they looked great
Anyway that's my $.02

My rims are back and look great!

Hi guys,

Just got back my LC80 rims from the sandblasting and power coating, they looked great. (see photo attached)

Now, should I get regular tires from my 4runner 265/75/16 or
can I install original size 275/70/16?

Either size will fit a stock 4runner. I didn't see any lift info. The 265 sill rub in front under articulation and sharp turns with stock height. If you have a lift the 285's will fit. I am lifted (see signature) and I run 265.
