Regarding taking delivery of a new 4Runner

I'm delighted to be taking delivery of a 2021 TRDP this weekend. Anything I should be looking at in terms of visual inspection before accepting it? It's been in a truck/train/storage lot for 6 weeks on the way to the dealership since arriving at the port in early December.

One thing I've read about here is the rodent-chewed wiring issue. Not sure how much of a real concern this is, or how to check for it.

Any advice on this or anything else appreciated.

Pop the hood and look from the passenger side where wires go into the engine.


Look at the 3rd and 4th bolt (from the front) on this supercharger and look down under them and you can see two wire harness Deutsch connectors.
In that area.

Essentially 0 miles, zero lights on the dash, no funny noises at idle. check 4hi, 4lo, then go test drive a few miles. and make sure it tracks straight

Congratulations! Be sure to ask to see the completed Toyota Pre-Delivery Service (PDS) Check Sheet from the dealership and get a copy of this document for yourself. I would use that as a guide to do my own inspection before signing off on my purchase.

Depends on where they store them. Most are outdoors for $$$$ reasons.
But yeah, if there is damage, unless it JUST started, it should be evident.

Ever smell "rat"? Like their waste? Take a sniff for that if you have a good nose.


I am currently trying to source OEM soy wires to run a test with Cosmoline and a few other waxy products to see if it will degrade the sheathing.
I don't want to spend for a sensor... Just the wires.
I am unsure if I can speed the process up in any way. (I can make stuff rust ina few minutes though :whipping2 )

And BTW, if you read about essential oils keeping mice away, ask any exterminator worth his salt about that.

One option I pondered was getting some wire flex loom, heat shrink and covering the OEM wires with that, then misting Cosmoline or equivalent on that.

Do a test drive before giving any payment or signing anything. Turn off the radio, listen to the vehicle, not the sales rep. Stop on a straight section of road, put it in 4H and drive a little, then disengage it while moving.

And all the other stuff others have listed above.

Enjoy the new T4. If you want the Toyota warranty, don't give the dealer $2k. There are out of state Toyota dealers that will do way better for a Toyota Platinum zero deductible. Mine expired unused. 8 years, no problems, no service and it's seen a lot of trails, sand and some snow.
