Something interesting in TX:I can register the 4R as a truck if I want to. Apparently, and I don't have the full details until I go in, if it comes out cheaper to register the vehicle by LBS than regular registration you are warranted that option. (although I think the rules change Sept 1)
So I need to find out exactly what weight I use for the calculations:
Summary Of State Motor-vehicle Registration Fee Schedules 1/ - Highway Taxes and Fees 2008 - Motor Fuel & Highway Trust Fund - Policy Information - FHWA
GVWR: 5580 LBS TOY's label
Wikipedia:A gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum allowable total weight of a road vehicle or trailer when loaded - i.e including the weight of the vehicle itself plus fuel, passengers, cargo, and trailer tongue weight.
EDMUNDS.COM
GVWR: 5330 lbs.
Curb weight: 4045 lbs.

Curb Weight 4325 lbs.
