Registration Fees

I was just wondering how much you guys paid for registration. I just renewed mine for $240...I think CA is the highest in the country. Am I right?

I just did mine in Virginia and it was $70 for 2 years. I always do 2 years because that means I don't have to do an emissions tests until before I register it again.
 
Are we all talking about the same thing? There is huge range in amounts here, so I'm wondering if we are talking about registration fees or personal property taxes. I know Virginia has a personal property tax on vehicles, not sure about which other states have them as well. I can't wait to get my personal property tax for the year for the 2K4 4Runner...
 
He was talking about the anual registration fees. $240 sounds right to me. That's about what I paid when I purchased the truck. If you think these are high, just look back 10 years ago before they started pushing the registration fees back down. I believe they used to be 2 to 3 times this amount.

Property tax on cars? OMG, don't even say a thing like that. If the California legislature hears about it, they'll pass a new law. This is one revenue hungry state. No new taxes ... please please please!

For California, at least, the Vehicle license fee is based on the original price of the vehicle and then are reduced each year (to account for depreciation) according to a fixed schedule. Do a search on google or at the DMV and you can find information about how to calculate this. On top of the VLF are several other fees, but these are mostly fixed. For newer cars, the VLF dominates the total bill. On older cars, it's only a small portion.

We call that a vehicle tax in North Carolina. I pay $51/year for a historical plate. It's normally $21/year I think.

I pay $150 for two years, but I have personilized plates, which is a little more than regular plates. $240 is outrageous!!!Wow, insanity....:mad:
 
have a lookee here they base ot off MSRP.......last year it cost me $507 to register

on the other hand, my '94 truck only cost $50 for the year:D
 
Just paid mine, $187 for two years but that also includes $25 per year for special plates, and the $20 per year added on extra 'fee'. What a deal!!!:D
 
It looks like some states split the two apart. My state has me pay a fee to renew my license plates and registration and then at a later date they charge me personal property tax on the vehicle and that is based off the value of the car.

Looks like some states do that all at once???
 
The registration is due on my 99 4runner in June. I think the cost is $149 for 1 year in California.
 
Wow, CT ain't so bad!!!

I thought the reg fees were high!!! Of course, we also have to pay property taxes at the town mil rate you live in, at an 80% assesment of the blue book vlaue each year. I paid $182 last July on my 1998 Olds Intrigue. I bought the 4runner in late August 2003 so I'm guessing it will be a property tax bill due in late July of close to $1100... I started saving for it already...:(
