Reinstalling Brake Drums, one rubs, one is too tight.

Finally getting my bearings on my axles and im completely broke and unemployed.

I went to put on my break drums and the right side went on, took a little force and it rubs a bit.

Left side I cannot get on, the brake pads seem too wide to get the brake drum on, how can I adjust this?

All you need to do is adjust the shoes some to allow your drum on. You want some clearance anyway.

What happens is the adjusters expanded to the wear in your shoes. They need to be adjusted the other way with new pads as they are thicker.

Maybe I should add a little info.........if you want, you can remove the aduster cover from the inside side of the drum....using a broad blade screwdriver you can adjust the adjuster..........if you turn it one way it will expand the shoes and the other will contract them.

Open the bleeder valve on the back of the drum and compress the cylinder that spreads the tops of the shoes. Put the tensioner spring back on (hardest part, IMO), and wrestle the shoes into position as close to the middle as you can get. Put the drum back on and pump the e-brake to spread the shoes back into position.

Also check for contact with the dust shroud on the back of the drum and adjust with a small pry bar or screwdriver as needed.
