remote distance

curious how far people can be form their truck for the key fob remote to work. I have to be within about 15 feet. If other vehicles are parked around it , I almost have to be at the truck. I put new battaries in. My ford truck I can be nearly 100 feet away. All of my actuators are working fine, everything works like it should .

Same here and I have a new genuine Toyota fob that's only a year or two old. I guess that was as good as the tech was 20 yrs ago.

To gain a little distance press the remote fob to your chin then press the button. Your body will act as an antenna extension similar to grabbing the old rabbit ears on a TV set back in the day. I've been using this trick since the 90s and it does work.

Is this method compatible with our tinfoil hats? Or will there be interference?

x2. I've used this method from time to time and yes it works very well. It increases the range dramatically.


To the o/p - yes, 3rd gen OEM key fobs all have terrible range. It's just something we all have to cope with.
 
20 yards or so; if it is a non humid cold night maybe up to 40.

Acuras and Hondas for me have been the worst for me as far as range goes.
 
Mine will do 50 feet or more. Did mine once from the seventh floor of a hotel when my daughter wanted me to come down and open it so she could get something. I've always been impressed with the range as long as battery was good. I have cleaned and tightened the battery contacts more than once. That helps when range falls on a good battery.
 
Mine sometimes works if I'm standing right next to the truck. I've already tried changing out the batteries. This things just getting old.

Mine works from about 30 to 40 feet. (RS3000) That's fine with me because any farther and they would lock again before I could get to the truck and open the door. Which I believe is 30 seconds. I don't think that's programmable.
 
Mine usually works 20-30 ft. Other day started acting up strange stuff changed battery, same problem. Ended up being pocket lint had built up between rubber button insert and hard plastic case. How many of us have inspected key fobs for lint problems. Had to laugh at that fix, I know some of us get OCD maintaining our Runners.
 
15-20 feet max for me. I have played with the idea of doing a custom extender but its super low on my priority...aka lottery winning to do it :)

I used to be able to use it from inside the house to my driveway (20 feet maybe?) until I installed my rear camera in the tailgate. Ever since then I have to be damn near touching the car before it works. What could I have jacked up? I know the receiver and all is back there in the tailgate but if I had accidentally mangled any wires feeding the camera wire through I would think it would have broken something completely not just cut the distance. Is there any kind of antenna it uses that maybe I didn't get put back into place correctly back there?
 
I am using amazon aftermarkets for both of my rigs, on average I don't try and use them until I am about 15 feet away, but the other day I couldn't remember if I locked it...had an unobstructed view of the front of the vehicle and hit it from a solid 40 yards away and the lights flashed.

I had my camera installed what I would like to assume professional but am more on the fence of being horrible now. But honestly mine started to be a lot worse just in the month of June, before it worked great..
