Remote rear window button

I recently camped a weekend in the 4 runner and it worked great except when you got hot or cold you had fumble through the front packed with stuff, find the key turn it on, hope the radio wasn't cranked find the rear window button and roll it up or down. Alot of hassle. I made something better.

I purchased a window universal switch from parts express for 10 bucks shipped, did a little wire tracing and Viola! I have window switch on the inside of the rear cargo hatch that you don't have to worry about the key.

I traced the wires off the key tumbler for the rear window. I hooked up the 3 wires up and cut a hole in the plastic cover.

Works great and cheap mod too.

I like it! I also wish that the rear window button on the remote would raise the window too, instead of just lowering it--anybody know if that can be made to happen???

Nice. I think I'll have to try this one out. I bet I can find a switch like that at a local store somewhere.

Yeah there's three wires running from the back of the switch down to the blue control box.

One white and black one which is the ground. It would be your center post on the switch.

Then there is a dark green with a yellow stripe and dark green with a red stripe. These are your +12v. One is up and one is down. They are located on the blue box. One row in from the passenger side stacked on top of each other.

They go on the momentary part of the switch.

Works like a charm

I did this mod with no problems. My toggle switch sat too deep in the door panel cutout, but nothing I couldn't work around.

Do these 2 wires continue in the same colors up into the truck? I'm considering mounting the remote switch in the trunk area - maybe on the C pillar.

Yes they do.

Great, thanks.
This will be the perfect compliment to the sleeping platform I'm building this weekend (and next).

Your going to have to take the plastic piece that runs along the fender well and seat belt. The wire will be under the rug
