remote rear window?

hi there,
i'm tobias from germany and just got my '95 V6 automatic and am planning to build it for surf trips around europe... great car - apart from the gas mileage!

i'm now wondering if there's anybody who installed a remote for the rear window. i really like the rear window style but open it with the key is so annoying... as there is a remote for the newer generations existing, wouldn't it be possible to install one in the 2. gen?

If you get a remote start/alarm system you can use the key fob that comes with it on your rear window. You need to use an additional module with this type of setup though.

as i'm completely stupid on electrical issues can you give me a more detailed hint how to make this?

If you're not familiar with electrical work then you do not want to do this yourself. In order to do this on your own you will have to have a clear understanding on how to read an electrical diagram. You will have to use a multimeter to test your wires if you want to install it right. Some experience with running wires and working with car alarms and remote starters would also be helpful. I would take your runner to a shop and let them do that for you if you want it done right. Expect to pay a few hundred for a decent alarm/remote starter and another couple hundred for installation. If you were local to me I would install it for the price of a few beers :)
 
On my old runner I actually had an extra switch like the one found by the shifter, tapped it in to the rear window wires and installed it in the cargo area so if I had to roll the window down I could just reach behind the rear seat n roll the window down....also when camping/fishing it was really easy/convenient to get in and out

i actually did that very same thing! haha it is very convienient when it comes to sleeping in the cargo area or other various things.... :-) i think they should have out them in stock, they have a light back there with a switch, why not use the window to?

i do think the remote idea for the rear window would be a very good thing, the wiring would be crazy though. i remember when i first got my runner the wiring going back was all fried so i red necked it with a set of toggle switches and trailer wire to go up and down. that was crazy as hell trying to figure out what the window motor wanted. (thats all before i got manuals for the truck) good luck though!!

Any time you need a hand with your runner let me know! I have a 2 car garage that is more or less turned into a full shop. I have just about any tool you can think of with a pretty solid understanding on how to do just about anything to a vehicle.

I've been meaning to put together a "DIY" for installing a keyless entry/remote start into a 4Runner for a few years. I have one in mine that is for a manual transmission, and I love it. I haven't yet built a module to allow the rear window to work, as a unit with a timer is required to turn the momentary "trunk release" button into a button for the window.
 
I plan on doing something similar but much easier. gonna use a RFID chip so i can just walk to the back of the rear window. take my RFID chip on my key chain and move it close to where i hide the sensor and watch the window roll down
 
For some reason my key on the tail gate is stuck and so i have to roll the window down from cab and open back manually. i will have to keep up on this thread.
 
i was wondering if the easiest way would be to take the complete installement of a newer 4runner which have the remote at least for running the window down. maybe than it would be a small step for upgrading it...
another idea: what about a range rover freelander (?) installation?
 
Not to steal your thread koke, but has anyone actually done this with a remote start system? I have a trunk button on my fob and have always thought it would be very cool to be able to roll the back window down with it.
 
there are remotes existing in germany special for the 4runner. these come with open/close the power door locks and an additional button for roof or windows. i talked to the guy but he was wondering how this single button could be managed for open/close the rear window... as this requires two different "commands"?
 
most stereo/alarm shops can added the rear window roll down feature. you just need to buy an alarm system that has the function. i know viper does and my uncle had this on his 94 honda accord. he was able to roll up and down his windows
