Remote start auto-off on entry

I had the OEM remote start in my Tundra and after exhaustive research found there was no way to get around this.....incredibly stupid and obvious oversight IMO.....

Thats the main reason i didnt bother with the OEM remote start in the T4R...

I have the same add-on remote start option and noticed the same thing. Also, once remote start is activated, you cannot unlock the door with the remote - you have to use the key manuallay - but at least the engine stays on unlike the Viper. Not having a remote way to shut off would suck though. Looking forward to your dealer's response.

there response is going to be that it cant be changed. the factory (its actually dealer installed) remote start is programmed so that the shut off is the unlock button. it makes no sense. rather than buy there remote start i added my own dei piece tied to the factory remote but the start and stopp is programmable. mine you have to press lock twice to start and three times to stop but unlocking the truck you just get in turn the key to run and drive away.

I made sure my TE had a factory installed remote start. I can deal with it shutting off when I unlock the door. I have been down that road a few times with after market alarms and remote starts. Never again.

I edited this to add that its been my experience that alot of these stereo places dont employee the greatest people. I have seen them duplicate keys and people NEW stereo systems etc just happen to have then stolen a week weeks after install at their homes with no damage to thier vehicle or alarms going off.

If you must use them. Use the valet key, pay cash, do not list your home or work address. If you need a spoof address just use your local police department. Just FYI.

depends on the shop you use i have worked for a large chain of car audio stores called car toys for about 10 years now. we have been in business since the early 80s and have 47 stores in different parts of the nation. the techs are all master certified and very well paid and the company is a large corperate structure, not a small fly by night. there is definitly no comparision to the "factory" remote start. it is not factory toyota does not now nor have they ever installed the remote start at the factory it is a part with a plug in harness for the toyota installed by the dealer but sold through toyota. just recomendations but if done right a good aftermarket remote start will work forever without flaw. i have had customers come back to have systems removed so they can take to there next car after having them for more than 15 years allready. biggest difference is any good aftermarket system (products made by DEI are the best) has a lifetime waranty. the factory option is only the 3 year factory waranty.

I had toyota and aftermarket remote starters in my '13 Avalon, which had the push button ignition (fob in your pocket). Both systems, the car shut off when you open the door. Aftermarket had WAY better range though.

My TRDP has a key, not a fob, and I have the aftermarket starter installed by the dealer. One press of the starter fob (separate from key), and it unlocks the doors. Get in, key in ignition, foot on brake, and the remote start disengages, but truck keeps running, the way it should be.

Why they can't figure out how to make it work with the push button ignition is beyond me. You get in, hit the brake, and if it doesn't detect your key, it shuts off. Seems pretty simple, and my friend's MDX works like that.

I'm planning to have an aftermarket remote start installed in my '16 Limited. Will the keyless entry feature still work after a remote starter is installed? Don't want to lose out on that.

Check this thread. I did this mod in a few hours and couldn’t be happier. I ordered the factory remote but it wasn’t necessary. No more takeover when I open the door after remote starting.
