Remote Start Issues

I have an aftermarket remote start, installed by the dealer. I believe it is DEI. I've had an intermittent problem where it will crank the starter, but the engine won't fire. It literally cranks for 10 seconds, stops, waits a few seconds, and tries again. I've been back to the dealership several times, and they have worked on it. At one point, they installed a new system.

I just had it there again this past Thursday, and they said they soldered one of the connections, and that should take care of it. Worked fine over the weekend, and then had the problem again after work today.

They mentioned that it could have something to do with my Valentine1 radar detector. I have it plugged into the ODB2 port with an adapter that Valentine sells, which auto-mutes the detector if below a preset speed. I really like this functionality.

Is it possible that this is the problem? Today I stepped on the brake to stop the remote start, waited a minute, then unplugged the radar, and tried the remote start again, and it worked as expected. I also tried again after stopping at a store on the way home, and it worked. I know that sometimes the radar doesn't turn off, which seems odd, so I wonder if this has something to do with it?

Seems like it would be pretty easy to test. Leave the radar detector out for a month. or only plug it in after starting for a month. See if the issue stops. Then plug it all in like you want for a month and see what happens.

Sounds like the remote is working correctly. It won't crank for more than 10 seconds. Your 4runner, on the other hand, is having intermittent starting issues. Take out the radar detector and let it go for a while. That's kind of the issue when you start stacking mod on top of mod. It's hard to track it down. Eliminate as many modifications as possible.

Sounds like the remote is working correctly. It won't crank for more than 10 seconds. Your 4runner, on the other hand, is having intermittent starting issues. Take out the radar detector and let it go for a while. That's kind of the issue when you start stacking mod on top of mod. It's hard to track it down. Eliminate as many modifications as possible.

Sounds the the key emulator might not be working well.

I've had this same problem happen 3 times over the last week and a half with my Compustar remote start. Called the Compustar dealer and he said to have the car battery checked. I'll be getting this done soon.

dont know if the 5th gen have the 2nd starter wire or 2nd ignition, just got to make sure those are hooked up also, and the bypass is hooked up correctly, a bad ground and connection can make the system faulty. i think gs35shadow is more familiar with the 5th gen. im more of the 4th gen side

Sounds the the key emulator might not be working well.

We had a Compustar remote recently installed in our 2018 TRD ORP and experienced the cranking with no start scenario only once. I mentioned it to the installer and he said if it happend again to bring it back because it could have to do with the signal from the factory key fob to the remote start. Has not happend since.

My issue apparently was related to a faulty car battery.
