Remote Start Question

This may or may not be covered in the owners manual but, When i activate the remote start, is it supposed to shut off when i go to unlock the doors?

17 trd off road with remote start+ feature.

I've tried with both the normal key and the upgraded remote fob. and the runner shuts off when i go to unlock the truck.

Maybe this is normal for toyota's style remote starts, but in my f150 i could start the truck, unlock the doors, get in and turn the key to the on position and carry on.

I believe that this is a definitely a "Toyota thing." When I had an aftermarket Viper remote start installed on my 4Runner, the installer told me up front that when when I open a door after having remote started the truck, the system would shut off the engine.
He said that it was a safety feature with Toyota where unlike other vehicles, the car would stay running and allow me to get in, put it in gear and drive off. It's an inconvenience to have to restart the truck to drive away, but still better than getting into a totally cold vehicle.

Yea I thought so myself. I may be wrong but also think that after 10 min. It shuts off until you remote start again. Had mine thrown in as a package deal when purchasing vehicle. Wished it was like any other remote start but I guess I shouldn't complain.

With my ford, only the vehicle was running, you were not able to engage gears or anything until the key was in and turned to the "on" position.

Either way, gave up a few convenience creature comforts but, for the right reasons i ended up with a much better vehicle for my needs.

Aftermarket remote start is a completely different story as long. With the exception of a Limited using the smart key, aftermarket can be configured to stay running. I'm using a Compustar and it works perfect.
