remote start

my 2011 T4R does not have a remote start. So my question is this; can I purchase ECONOMICALLY the OEM parts to make one or is some aftermarket set up better? If the aftermarket is the way to go, which make/model works the best for the money?

I highly recommend anything from Compustar. I've had the same one in my 3rd gen for 10 years. Still works, never had a problem.

At the risk of hijacking (but maybe it will help the OP), is it true that the OEM / Factory remote start kills the engine when you open up the door to get in?

It seems I read that in another thread somewhere and that makes absolutely no sense to me. I would definitely be after an aftermarket solution as opposed to OEM parts if that was the case.

I just bought a 2014 TEP/KDSS and had to do a factory order to get the options I wanted.

Before I knew how Toyota VIP remote start worked, I ordered it on the build. In hindsight, I would have skipped the factory remote starter, and installed something with better range and features. Most DEI products are good, Viper, Python.
