Remove Cargo Racks / Sliders on roof?

Hi, has anyone figured out how to remove the cargo sliding bars on the roof of a 4th gen 4runner? I can loosen them an move them around, but I don't see how they would com off of the roof rack.

Any input appreciated!

Yep! that was the first thing i did! First thing is pop open the on the front mounts where it attaches to the roof, using a thin flat head screwdriver. I think the plastic flap is on the inside of the mount. Then using a torx head driver (don't remember what size), unscrew the mount from the roof and slide it off the fore/aft roof rails. Then loosen the crossbars and slide them off. Then you are done! Just screw the roof mounts back down and put the cover back on them!

Removing the crossbars is easier than that. They're designed to slide in and out completely from the rear. If you remove the plastic endcaps on the back end, the crossbars will slide all the way out. They came from Japan without the crossbars installed, so the dealer had to put them in.

There's a pic in this thread of the plastic endcap and instructions for carefully removing it so as not to break the plastic tabs.

Wish I would have known that.. oh well ..the way i did it wasn't hard :redbrick:. Seams like way above is a bit easier though! :thumb3:

Does this also work for the Sport Edition, Urban Runner and Trail Edition tubular rails and crossmembers? The mounts seem somewhat different.
