removed interior now wont start

Ive got a 96 4runner 3.4l which i had parked in front of my garage.
I removed the interior and cleaned the carpet.
I ended up selling the front seats and installing some in nicer shape seats.
The car has sat for a month or more.
Ran perfectly fine before.
Before this is sat for 6 months and started no problem with a jumper pack.

So im getting the feeling its related to the alarm Ive never used it and didnt even think it worked.

However there is a plug or two missing from under the drivers seat and I imagine that its related to the alarm.

Will this cause the car to not start?
Anyway to bypass it?

All fuses are good. Relays have been tested. Starter good.
Replaced grounds at the fuse box under the hood and to the battery / firewall.

All power works inside and out.
Car does not click or even turn over.

Yes, that box under the drivers seat that was zip tied to the carpet needs to be plugged in.
 
Yeah, if the box under the seat is input it won’t start. As far as by passing it? Why not just leave it plugged in? Does it really bother you ? Because your gonna have to dig deep into the harness.

I sold the seats and didnt keep the box. The seat i have in there now didnt have one. It didnt even cross my mind until the car wouldnt start.

You might have to look at the wiring diagram and installation instructions to see how the RS3000 was wired into the truck (they were not factory installed), and then reverse the steps.

My 97 sr5 has the RS3000 unit which indeed immobilizes the truck if there's something wrong (i found out in the middle of no-where when one of my dogs knocked their water bowl under the seat and flooded it).

As everyone before me said, you need the box for the truck to work, OR you have to dig in, and trace the wires. Since the RS3000 is NOT a factory option, but rather something installed at the dealer there is zero reason that it cannot be removed.

I've thought about removing it myself, but the amount of hassle is not worth it (yet).

I was able to find after-market key fobs for it so it functions for me now, and I don't keep a water bowl behind the driver seat any more. It looks like that was corrected in later models as per 4Runner4Leon so the components have moved around.

I messaged the buyer a few days ago and he said he'd check.
Since its been a couple days i might message him again or just go look for another one. It was my own fault anyway.
 
Don't know if this is of any use...

I just removed an RS3000 wires and all from a 97 this weekend. Several taps, something like 4 connector plugs plus the toyota security light/mic in the center console. I just started at the box, the tap at the harness that goes towards the rear, the blue plug (unplug stock plug from aftermarket plug and plug stock plug back into connector), the excess wiring had been stuffed in a body cavity, pulled that and followed it to the small white connector on the backside of the fuse block, near the top, removed the aftermarket version and plugged the stock one in, the little black box (GBS ecu) held on by zip ties, a few more taps under the steering wheel and a big white plug, and then the little mic/light security thing. The piezio thingy I cut the wires and pulled out of the engine bay. I may have forgotten a thing or two, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be, just required some patience. Having the stock plugs unmolested and plugged into the RS300 via short wiring harnesses made life a lot easier.
For access I removed the driver's seat, the door sill trim, the driver's kick panel, the panel under the steering wheel (4 bolts), unbolted the fuse block (2 bolts), and pulled the duct work that runs under the steering wheel. While there were some taps (red, they split open in the middle) the plugs made it pretty easy with a bit of patience.


My 96 had an aftermarket alarm (just a little red light, no mic and no 'toyota security' written on it) that the PO had pulled out. It started fine- they had reconnected the black starter wire that they'd interrupted for the system. One time the connection came apart and the truck wouldn't start. I reconnected it and all was good again. That black wire was under the steering wheel next to a fat white/red wire. Again, that's the one with the single little light and no words, different from the one described above.
 
I think it's dealer installed so its pretty much plug and play with a few splices. I just removed it from the 98 body I installed on my 97 chassis. I might even still have the box.
 
I hate the alarm on my '97 RS3000, it had a mind of its own (usually at 3am). But I didn't want to completely remove it because then I would lose the remote door lock/unlock.

So I kept the RS3000 installed, and just clipped the horn wire - so now when the alarm goes off at 3am, it just harmlessly blinks the parking lights :D.

I'm very much thinking of doing the same thing because
A) neighbors, they still think I'm a little grease-covered-crazy but tolerable
B) nobody around here pays attention to honking horns...inured to it, likely.

You're most welcome, glad it came in handy! And indeed, everyone is completely inured to these alarms. No one thinks, when they hear an alarm, "I better call the cops"... They think "who's the moron who set off his alarm". Without the horn sound, no one will know that *I* am that moron :D.

The guy i sold my seats and carpet to told me he didnt see it anywhere.

So i went and checked the car thoroughly. Apparently i had originally stuffed it in to the center console and threw it in the back. I dont even remember doing it.

Anyways thanks for everyones help
