Removed Running Boards

personally i miss the full size running boards from my 98 runner and how they replace the mud flaps and flowed from the front to the rear wheel well and sit lower from the door bottom.

better protection for the lower panels since it was all one piece affair so to speak (mostly used for the snow season up here and gravel/dirt roads).

the new boards have the front mud flaps seperate from the boards and i dont care for it plus they sit so close to the door bottom.

You could probably modify the brackets or add spacers between the brackets so the running boards would be lower.
 
um doesnt the SE get the same silver roof racks? i thought the SR5 is the only model that gets black.

You are right. The Sport's have the same roof racks as the Limited's. The painted silver ones with the black crossbars.
 
Here - I photochopped my running boards off for all to see. Coincidentally, it's my first time posting a photo of my 5 day old 4-Runner. :D

I am not sure if I like it without the running boards. What do the ones who took them off already think of the way it looks without the running boards? I am considering taking them off because they do not serve a purpose for me. I am 6'2''! Also, how heavy are they to lift?
 
The boards weigh like 10 lbs each. I think the truck looks much better with them off. Less "soccer mom-ish" more like a truck.
 
Hmmm.... I think the black looks better without the boards and the silver looks better with them.
 
On a side note, I saw a Silver/Cladding 03 in with the boards removed today in El Segundo. I'm not a big fan of the cladding but I thought it looked somehow naked without the boards.
 
The only thing I don't like about no running boards is that you see the undercarriage/framework of the vehicle and. I also found out when there not there, you get mud inside the door more and you have nothing to wipe the mud off your boots on. Just my experience......they're back on now because of that, though I did like the "truck" look better.

:iagree: When I first saw the pictures of the 4Runner without the running boards, that was what my first impression was!
 
Was just driving back from Boston tonight and saw the best looking 2004 4runner I have ever seen! It was a black sport with spoiler, silver roof rack and boards, and silver front and back center sections on it's bumpers. Sweeet!
