Removing mud flaps 2014 4R

I have searched and cannot find any info on removing mud flaps from a 2014 4R. All that I read is about 3rd gen and 4th gen.

My questions are:

Has anyone done this and what was your experience? Looks/Throwing up filth on the car?

I just don't like the look of them. Probably 95% of my driving will be done on road never snows where I live. The biggest problem I see here is they have been re tarring a lot of the streets but pretty much done everywhere around me.

Well they are easy to remove, BUT, they open up huge holes into the body work that will get filled up with dust and dirt and water and such.

So If you really want to remove them then just trim them off close to the bottom of the bumper/body work and leave the entire upper part mounted on the vehicle. If careful you can even do this without even removing them from the truck.

Check laws for your state though, it may be illegal to remove the mudflaps leading to a fixit ticket and having to rebuy them :/

Rather than needing to remove mine I had to install them. For some reason my SR5 came without, most likely because the running boards were there instead which I had the dealer remove.
To answer one of your questions tho, there is more dirt and small rock chips on the road that will get tossed up and can mar your finish then you might imagine. Hence the laws in some states that require them on certain vehicles.
I have added them to an old stock 88 Toyota pickup because of that. I don't see anyway you can avoid the rocks even on city streets. Driving on dirt just speeds up the process.

The 2014 rear mudflaps are built into part of the wheel well liner, so removing them will leave that gap. Instead of ruining them, and cutting them up, find somone without rear mudflaps (like me ) and trade with them. For the rears, you can swap with any year 5th gen. Fronts are a different story.

You will get a decent amount of knicks and chips on the trim below the doors and on the lower door panels. I had no flaps from April to November last year and I noticed several of them. The added bonus for me is my Husky Mud Guards really saved my paint this winter IMO. Winter driving aside, all it takes is a couple of construction zones on the highway to mess up your lower panels.

The Husky's are really rigid though and I do wonder if they impact my highway MPG at all lol.

I agree. I really don't like mudflaps but after having to go through some mud this past weekend I'm glad I had them. I had thought about taking em off but I think they'll stay. I don't hit the mud often but just stuff from the road can do damage too. I like the protection they provide.

For sure, and the look has actually grown on me. For some reason that look reminds me a bit of the Lexus LX.

This is exactly what I am looking for! Does anyone know what the part numbers are for the liners? I tried to explain it to the dealer and that was like explaining astro-physics to a thug. Lol.

Just an FYI.

If I recall correctly, when 1engineer "upgraded" from his SR5 to a Trail, he noticed his rear window wasn't getting as dirty. He finally determined it was from the longer mud flaps on the rear of the newer 4Runners. So if you remove them completely, I'd imagine your rear window would get dirtier than it does now. When I say dirtier, I mean from dust and dirt particles coming off the highway while you are at speed... not MUD.


This may not be a problem for some people, but just thought I'd mention it.

Did you ever find the part number for the rear fender liner WITHOUT the mud flap? Looking for the same thing.

FYI, 2010-2013 sr5 rear bumpers are the same as the 2010-2015 limiteds. 2014-2016 sr5 and trails have the same bumpers. I don't think those pieces will fit correctly into a 2014+ rear bumper.

Your truck but I would never remove them from mine. They do have a job to do and I guarantee you that you will start chipping the hell out of the rocker panels and lower fenders. Even Bakersfield has the errant rock on the roads. ;-)
