Removing rear license plate housing

So I'm interested in painting the rear license plate housing thing that is usually either that ugly, bland gray or chrome and painting it black to go along with the black/silver theme I've got with my truck. Is it possible to remove this piece and if so, how do you go about doing it? Thanks.

i was JUST thinking about doing that today. Didnt have time to look into it, but ill let ya know if i find anything out over the next few days

Did this this past weekend. Lots of work.
1 - Begin by removing the panel of the rear hatch
2 - remove 4 bolts that hold the rear window assemb in place.
3 - remove 1 or 2 bolts that hold the plate. The rest are clips. I believe you have to squeeze them together and push them out. Ihad extra clips from a replacement so I just broke them off.
4 - also 2 more bolts that hold the latch. When putting back together make sure you put it the correct way. Theres an arrow on it make note.

Then it should come off.

I assume the rear hatch panel removes the same way the doors and other interior panels do? Meaning that it's held in by those same clip/fastener thingys?

i though about the same thing to man. i was thinking of doing that plastic gray piece above the rear bumper and the plate holder with some truck bed liner spray. i'm not sure how it would look though?

Yeah I need to paint mine black as well since I am going with the silver and black theme on my 4R too. The only thing I have left to change to either silver or black is the license plate surround and 2 Limited emblems on the side pillars from chrome to black.

Sloan, I painted that bumper trim piece with black Krylon and it really pops now. I painted the front valence the same color too and I really like how it came out. It probably would look good on your Thundercloud color

How did you paint the front valence? Just tape off the rest of the color matched parts? Post up some pics if you get a chance, I wanna do my valence and rear bumper step as well this summer when I get some time.

I fixed the little bit of over spray I got in the bottom of the right corner with some touch up paint

Looks good, Kelly! Have you thought about painting that strip that goes through the center of your grill to black? That might make a nice subtle change.

Thanks man. Yeah, I need to repaint the whole grill and I was thinking about adding a little accent to it since I want everything black or silver. The valence took like 3 coats of paint
