Replace carpet or bedlined??

Hey i have read about guys tearing out the carpet and bed lining it?
The cost of a new carpet online is a bit pricey. What should i do? I don't want to spend that much as its only carpet.

It was ripped out and he put down fabric that u would get from walmart or something cheap and took out the original carpet

ohhhhhhhh....whole nother ball game here, really depends on what you prefer, If you bed line it you're going to be able to see all the contours of the bare metal obviously. I've never taken my carpet out so I don't know how hard it would be or how expensive to put new carpet in...sorry if that doesnt help

It's really personal preference/ what you use your truck for

I had a 91 and the carpet was thrased i was gonna bedline it but never got around to it, it ended up getting stolen so it wasnt my problem anymore haha I have badluck with carpet

I've completely removed the carpet from my 3rd gen runner so I could install all the wiring and speaker cable for my stereo under it and then put it back.
When you remove it there is lots of ridges and contours in the metal (it doesn't look so good) and its not as comforting for around town.
I say go to the local yard and find a 3rd gen with a semi good carpet (no rips) if its stained like mine was all you need to do is rent a household carpet cleaning machine. And it is not so hard to remove and install. BUT if you just use your runner for off road and not around town the carpet can get dirty... weather techs will help with that

Removing the carpet is pretty easy. I think the fella mentions where he got it online. Do a search. You'll have to do a bit of cutting. As far as the matting underneath, there's not a whole lot. I drove the '01 around for a few days with no carpet and it wasn't too loud. Not to sure about insulation, though. I was doing that in August.

Yeah I saw that video it seems pretty straight forward, just tedious. I like the idea of going to a wrecking yard. Good thinking

New carpets are a definite option. Top them off with Weather Techs

This really isn't too difficult a decision. If you want the 4runner to be a beater from now on, then go ahead and bedline it if you like that look, but it is not going to look good at all with no carpet (no offense to the guys that have done that, it may be more functional for some of you). It will also be alot noisier.

If you want this to still be a decent quality vehicle, then just bite the bullet and get new carpet. You can get NEW carpet for around $150-160, so why would you pay $100 for someone else's old ratty carpet. I know it's more, but it's worth saving for and not spending $100 and having to tear apart the interior of a donor 4runner.
