Replace injectors, just o-rings, or leave it all be?

Hi all,

Doing a 3.4 timing belt but there's oil and junk all over the engine and I simply want to clean it up and seal it up. I pulled the upper intake manifold (learned how expensive the gaskets were, ) and since I'm yanking the valve covers off, I'm wondering if I should replace the injectors and or o-rings while I'm at it. Any recommended brands? I see remaned Densos but am not sure I trust eBay reman stuff.

Truck is a 99' and has 170k and there were no issues with misfiring or leaking before. Also, should I go ahead and replace the fuel lines as well, or are they known for going a lot longer (age and mileage wise)?

If the injectors still fire properly, then don't bother replacing them (crap's expensive, yo). You could clean them by given them a good spray with carb cleaner or sea-foam, but be gentle and don't go blasting away at it.

If you remove them from the fuel rail, buy new o-rings.

All the threads I've seen so far where someone replaced their original Toyota injectors with any non-Toyota injector have resulted in updates where they state major CEL issues and engine problems. I think the lesson is you must use OEM/Toyota injectors OR original injectors that are recertified from a legit company (not EBAY).

The catch is that Toyota / OEM injectors are expensive, very expensive. So just my opinion but if they are working fine then don't touch them.

I also wouldn't assume that the presence of sludge means your injectors need to be replaced.

I'd send your OEM injectors out to WitchHunter. It's already apart, it's only about $120 to have them test & clean them and they come back with new o-rings. It's just good maintenance in my book.

What gaskets did you find to be expensive? The manifold gaskets? They're re-usable.

Gasoline actually keeps injectors and fuel systems really clean. Have you ever used gas to get stuff off of anything, it works great. It keeps stuff super clean. We run e85 a lot in our tuned turbo cars and we run gas tunes just to clean everything up. Ive seen injectors sent and flow tested, cleaned and come back with the same numbers before cleaning. Usually people add fuel additives that are not needed that clog up injectors. Best thing is not to use any additives. I would get new o rings and call it good.

If it's not missing, there's not reason to even take them out. If you do take them out, you probably should replace the O-rings, since they will be hard after all these years/miles. I wouldn't touch it. Dirt on the outside, or sludge in the motor, won't tell you anything about the injectors.

I wasn't thinking there was anything wrong with the injectors because of junk on the outside, I just wanted to address anything in advance so I wouldn't have to go through it all over again.
