Replace interior/license plate lights w/ LED's

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I really have no clue where to start on what/where to look for replacing the interior and license plate lights with LED's. If anyone knows the best place to order online, and the best types of LED's to grab help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the quick help guys. I also have another question. I have several lights out on my dashboard that I'd like to replace. I took a picture and drew some arrows to help show which ones are out. Where can I find these?

For this i think there soldering and is more involved. look at the following thread:

But hey if you go through with it, think of it as an opportunity to change the color and maybe match an aftermarket head unit if you end up going that route later on.

Thanks for the quick help guys. I also have another question. I have several lights out on my dashboard that I'd like to replace. I took a picture and drew some arrows to help show which ones are out. Where can I find these?

I'm glad I saw this post. I have the exact same lights out on my two temperature dials. I have no soldering experience and would prefer to have a technician/mechanic change these lights. Is this something that I could have done at a Toyota dealership service department?

Sorry, should've been more clear. I believe it is only two main lights that are out on the two control dials. The 'selector arrows/triangles' (not the ones I drew) on the outside of the two dials still work. I'm not so sure what's going on with where the time display is.

Lots of info on my site regarding leds and other lighting. I prefer V-Leds though they are considered a more pricier option.

Sorry, should've been more clear. I believe it is only two main lights that are out on the two control dials. The 'selector arrows/triangles' (not the ones I drew) on the outside of the two dials still work. I'm not so sure what's going on with where the time display is.

Mine is the same way excluding the time display. Do you know how you are going to go about fixing this? Also, my 4wd selector switch lights are out too. Are there fuses for these lights that need replacing or is it the lights themselves?

I had to deal with this when I got my 4Runner used. Dreaded having to get proprietary bulbs from the dealership. On this forum I learned you can replace the bulbs (and keep the bulb sockets) with replacement bulbs from radio shack. 2 bulbs for $1.99.. Google 12v micro lamps radio shack. Same bulb type also lights up the strip along the shifter.

Each button is not an individual light on the heating knobs. It's just one light in each. I just replaced mine, got them from the Toyota Dealership. It was like $15 for several different lights that I needed.

You could probably find something on the internet for less, but I didn't want to hassle with it.

The bulb in the LCD display is PN 90010-09017 (you need 1 ea.). The bulb for the controls is PN 90010-09015 (you need 2 ea.). My local dealer (SLO, CA) got $4.50 ea. from me for them yesterday. I couldn't find them cheaper online.

As someone noted above you might be able to get just the bulb part from Radio Shack and swap them out on the Toyota housing/base.

To remove the panel and get to them you have to open (or remove) the tray below the panel, remove the screw there, and the whole panel just pulls straight out (don't pull too far before disconnecting the plug). The lights are accessed pretty easily - I found a small probe magnet helpful for pulling them out of their holes once I 'unlocked' them with a small screwdriver (about 1/4 turn).

It took me about four minutes to replace three bulbs including putting the panel and screw back in.

90010-09015 - Genuine Toyota BULB, COOLER CONTROL SWITCH

So I need to get two bulbs for each control?

No. You need one bulb for each control rocker. You have two out so you need two total.

That is cheap enough and you shouldn't get hit with any additional shipping you should probably buy a few spares of each.

The light for my 4wd selector works sometimes but most of the time it doesn't come on. Would this be an indicator that there is something wrong with the bulb itself or would there be another issue causing this?

The OFF, Temp UP, Temp Down do not have lights(LED's) behind them. From left to right, the LED count is 4, 2, 5 for a total of 11, 3MM soldered lead type LEDS, just changed all mine to white, with blue Neo3 for the background. background are somewhat dimmable but the whites are either brite or a littler dimmer when headlights are turned on. Now there are mounting holes on the circuit board for the OFF position, but I did not check to see if it actually powers a bulb.

Did you ever figure out why? Did that happen after replacing the bulb? I have a hunch that the height of the bulb is critical (to light up both sections (arrow indicators) and the function indicator. I am curious. Maybe the bulb is too short.
