replace mass air flow sensor, won't start

I inherited this truck from my dad and it had an issue with power so I was messing around with the air intake system. I ended up busting the mass air flow sensor in the process. The truck ran before, just no power. I replaced the sensor and started the truck. It actually started right up and I let it idle for a few minutes. I gave it a little gas up to 2500rpm and then let it idle down and put it in reverse. I idled out of the garage and when I applied some gas while it was in reverse it started to die. So I let off the gas and put it in neutral and tried the gas again, it still started to die. I then put it in park and gas one more time and it completely died. Now it won't even start. I let is sit for a few minutes and nothing. I disconnected the battery thinking the computer needed to be reset and nothing. I ended up pushing it back into the garage. I still have the battery disconnected just in case that is the issue.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can look at? The sensor I bought was used from a wrecked 4runner, the guy at the yard said the 4runner was running before they gutted it. it did start up right after I put it in so I figure this is something else. Thanks for any suggestions!

What was the original issue that got you poking around under the hood in the first place? If your intake boot has a crack in it or even a hole you have unmetered air going into the engine that your computer does not know about so it does not add any fuel.
If the engine idles fine and stumbles on accell you most likely have unmetered air. Also check for large vaccuum hoses to be leaking or off all together.

What year truck and engine are we talking about? How long since you replaced the fuel filter? Does the air filter look clogged?

the original issue was no power. I got it started and drove it around for a bit, still no power. air filter has been replaced along with a full tune up, EXCEPT the timing belt. I also checked the compression on cylinder 5 and 3 and I only got 93psi. idk if that is timing or something worse. the truck idles fine and starts right up, no problem hitting the gas in idle either. its when it is under load that it won't pick up, and i mean drastic, not the normal 3.slowness. I have a '90 4runner with the 6cyl 3.0. it doesn't smoke at all and passed emissions about a year and a half ago.

A clogged fuel filter or a clogged cat conv could also cause similar problems.
