OK got a question.
Still looking for a 4 Runner, but when I get one it is going to be 2000 or earlier.
Will no doubt have more than 120,000 miles on it.
So I am definitely going to replaced the Ball Joints thats a given.
If it is Automatic which appears as though it will be because 5 Speeds around here are like finding a winning lottery ticket.
So the question is this.
I have heard that if in a colder climate that putting an external transmission cooler on it might be detrimental because it actually prevents the trans fluid from warming up properly when its really cold.
I plan on moving to Bend Oregon from Raleigh NC in less than 2 years.
So is there something to this external cooler being not the way to go in a colder climate?
Even though Bend is very temperate & actually hot in the summer and very mountainous so the vast majority of the year a transmission cooler would be a welcome addition.
I was thinking that I have seen many trucks out west especially big rigs that during the winter they put a cover/bra/blanket or what ever they call it over the front of the radiator to keep it warmer in the winter.
Could I not just do that? Put in an external cooler but in the winter put a cover over it?
I am most likely going to replace the radiator in any 4 Runner we get just debating on the trans cooler. I would certainly prefer to do so.
