I am trying to replace my stock head unit in a 2005 SR5 with a double din pioneer unit. My stock head unit is just the Toyota base radio, i don't think it's a JBL one, it doesn't say JBL anywhere. My head unit looks like this:
This is the unit I plan to replace it with: Pioneer AVH-P2400BT
The first problem I am running into is which wiring harness do I need.
When I went to Crutchfield, it (chat with customer service) tells me I need one that "retains the stock amplifier". It cost about $59.
This one: Axxess TYTO-01 Wiring Interface Connect a new car stereo and retain the factory JBL and JBL Synthesis® audio systems in select 2001-13 Toyota and Lexus vehicles at Crutchfield.com
Do I need one that "retains the factory amplifier" or can I just get one like this?
Metra 70-8117 Amp Bypass Harness Connect a new car stereo and bypass the factory amplifier in select 2003-07 Toyota vehicles at Crutchfield.com
I am not well educated on stereo systems, amplifiers etc so I don't really know why one option would be better than the other.
If it helps, at some point I would like to replace my speakers for something a bit better than the stock options.
My next question will concern the trim kit needed.
Thanks,
Ant
