This happened once before when I had the battery disconnected, 2000 4runner, after replacing the battery it started just fine but would not even get out of its on way...when you give it gas it sputters and would really move, ease up on the gas and it starts to move again. I'm lucky if I can get it to go 20mph... after some time (days and miles ) it sorta clears up..Whats the deal anyone have an idea...Thanks,,, I love this truck....had it 10 years and shes pushing 250,000...and I expect 350,000

Disconnecting the battery erases the adaptive parameters. So its relying in default settings that are great for a new fresh engine but not so great for a high milage one.
It relearns over time. Just starting it up and letting it idle a while and repeating the process a few times before driving may help.

To add to this, I would disconnect the battery and let it sit 5-10 minutes and reconnect it.
Then with no loads on (i.e. headlamps, HVAC, lights, ect) let it idle for at least 5-10 minutes and if you can drive it a good 20+ miles. The reason is because if you didn't do it that way after you re connected the battery, you may have learned improper idle, which could affect performance. It will run and shift a bit rough for a while as the vehicle has to adapt to the new parameters. This is more of a problem on our newer stuff with "Drive By Wire" but it still could apply to your vehicle since things like clogged up IAC, Dirty MAF, ect. could have been adjusted for by the computer.
