Replaced Spark Plugs W/ Pics!!!

i just finished replacing the spark plugs, a little overdue (37k miles)
it took abou 40 mins and all i need was a few extentions spark plug socket and a few sockets, it was really easy, here are some pictures...

oh yeah the u joint came in handy on the left bank, if you remove that bracket u dont even need the u joint

her is the engine with the cover on... very dirty! maybe i go off road too much...... HAH Yeah Right!!!!

it only takes two nuts to take off

after the air cleaner is taken off so you can access the right bank of the engine

working on the secong spark plug (notice the bracket is taken off)
i also had to tape the spark plug socket to the extention cause it kept staying with the spark plud down the hole

Did you get any sort of mix between the Denso's and the NGK's?

Also what plugs did you replace with, the NGK's?

actually 37K or so miles is actually quite low for replacing plugs as they should really be swapped at like 60K miles.

and in the manual its states to replace at 30k

josh,

that whatcha ma-jig is actually a direct ignition coil. it replaces a distributor and provides better spark due to its lack of resistance from lengthy wires.

i just went to kragen and gave him my truck info and i asked for the better ones and this is what he gave me. If you say these are really crappy, i will get some better ones. where should i buy them at?

autolite sound very cheap! i think I saw some a wally world. NGK plug are the best plug to get for Japanese car as Bosch plug are the best for German car. that why 95% of them come stock from the factory.you can get the factory NGK at napa for about $5 a piece.

Actually BMW ///M spec models come with either NGK or Bosch. Depends on what they pull out of the bin that day.


Josh, while i know that the plugs are seemingly expensive, trust me on this one. Get the NGK Iridium IX plugs. They made a HUGE difference in low end torque, mid and upper range power.

If i stay off of it, they actually provide a .1-.2 better mileage as well.

Do you still have the old plugs? If so, you may want to be our guinea pig. Don't change out the Autolites just yet. Run them for 30K and then check the gaps and condition. Compare them to the factory original stock ones and let us know how they perform.

honestly, i dont know how smart of an idea that would be. I take spark plugs quite seriously and I know for a fact i wouldnt trust some autolite spark plugs in my truck for 30K miles.


Josh, I would swap over to to NGK's or Bosch's. I just checked the NGK site and they list the platinum Vpower plugs and have no listing for the iridium ix's. The Vpower's do not even seem to be Platinum. While cross referencing the Denso site, they do have a listing for an iridium plug...


I think if i were you I would ensure what metal is recommended for you application (plat vs iridium) before you go any farther.


If iridium is required....Speak with NGK *this is the number to purchase from but they can provide you info* (888-800-9629) about finding a match for the Vpower plug that they recommend but in iridium.

If plat is required, they I would either go with NGK or Bosch. your choice...

i agree with you, i have no interest in being a guinea pig for anybody when it comes to my engine.

i called that number and the iridium spark plugs are $12 each and they are only in denso.

i went by monument auto parts and the have the ngk ix iridium for $7.80, i thought u said you purchased them for $4.60???

every other auto parts store does not carry them

lol, you are asking the guy to run cheap crappy plug in his 4r for 30k to see if it will ruin his motor and warranty? its like asking some one to take his 4x4 across a river to see how deep it is so you can go around it. josh don't use anything other then OEM plug on your 4R! NAPA has the OEM NGK for $5 a piece! read your manual!!!:nono:

just take out the autolite plug and clean them up return them. their should not be that much carbon on then since you just install them.
