So somehow ended up with a busted dust cover, not sure how. Dealer said they wouldn't replace under warranty, because it was not a defect, but that we surely must have hit something. Brought it up the line with toyota care, mind you I didn't have but 10k on the clock when this all went down. Toyota care said they had to side with the dealer and so I was left SOL.
I then bought the moog updated serviceable ball joint, got a press ...took the old one out, new one in. Problem with that was the clearance was wrong. The top circlip couldn't be placed to secure the balljoint, I attached some pics below to show the issue.
Moog on the left.
Called moog and told them the issues. They had not much to say other than maybe it was a manufacturing issue? Jeezum.
Needless to say I pressed the original Bj back in and rigged up an off the shelf dust cover. I packed it with grease to get the truck back on the road knowing I would have a mess down the road to deal with.
I guess in the process of all this fighting to get the balljoint retainer clip off I managed to poke a hole into the cv boot. [emoji17] not a good day.
So now I'm spewing cv fluid everywhere and need this crap all cleaned up and working proper.
Will be getting an entire new oem LCA assembly as well as cv boot kit.
Need a part number check. 2016 trail non-kdss driver side.
