Replacing A/C temp control panel.

Any one know of a write up or youtube video on replacing the temp/hvac control panel? I've searched for days. I find tons of replace the lights and a couple of replacing the unit but they always skip the part on disconnecting the cables on the back of the unit. I can't get mine out far enough to get to the cables behind. Anyone with a Chiltons or Haynes manual can you check and see if either gives detailed instructions. If one does I'll go buy one.

I believe you can undo the cable to the coolant control flow valve located against the firewall under the hood and you should be good to go.

That cable(temp control) goes to the passenger footwell and then to the heater control valve on the firewall has enough slack.
There are two others on the drivers side of the panel, one goes to the 'air flow' selector and the other goes to the recirculate or outside air under the drivers side. I don't know how to get those out/off.

Are you replacing with the same climate control module? Even though mine is a '97 (levers only), I swapped it with one from a '00 4Runner (levers, two knobs). The ebay seller that I bought from was selling the climate control with the cables luckily (they even color coded them haha), I noticed the 97' cables were different lengths with the 00' cables, and with a straight swap using original cables, I noticed the temperature knob wouldn't turn all the way...

With that said, I think there was a youtube video that showed how to swap out the A/C temp control but I can no longer find it. I think the user is Andy or [MENTION=168172]sleepydad[/MENTION] but I may be wrong hehe, but I think you can ask them...

Yes that was me. you will need the cables from donor. it's been a while and I deleted that vid because it was only for the ebay sale @ the time.

I can't remember if the electric was also an issue?

you need to undo the cables from the other ends. leave them connected to the control unit. all of the cables should come out with the control unit.

it's been a while but I'm pretty sure that is how I ended up doing it.

Ha figured it out. Unit is replaced and working. It was a real bear to do. I was able to disconnect the cable and connectors from the unit. I'll update and add pictures when I get a chance in-case anyone else has to replace this style control.
