Replacing a power steering line question

My girl's leaking BAD!!!! Got underneath and it's the line from the pump going to the steering rack. Cant even drive it it's so bad. The lines leaking at a 'p' trap portion of the line right before it meets a rubber hose. The hose connects the steel line to the steering linkage or rack(not sure). This hose is not high pressure as it has two standard clamps on either end. My question is, for a quick fix could I just cut out the 'p' trap portion of the line and replace the rubber hose with a longer hose?

That's what I did and it appears to be working good.
