Replacing alternator - weird electrical connector? (RESOLVED)

Hi all.

1999 4Runner. 6 cyl.

It has two connectors. The first is one of those wide plastic ones that just go in and out with a release tab. I got that one off easily.

The second is a connector like I've not seen before. It is gray plastic and shaped somewhat like a rubber boot that you see often. I cannot get this thing off. Primarily as I don't want to force it the wrong way and break the plastic.

I've seen other threads, people seem to be just talking about the other connector, not this one.

Do I just twist it off? I've tried that. Push and twist? Pry off?

I got a Denso rebuilt, I can see what looks like 4 "tabs" on the new one, but it's not intuitive what I need to do to get that connector off. I'm sitting here stuck, I *really* could use some help.

RESOLVED.

That was not a connector. In fact, it WAS a plastic "boot".

It does NOT twist off in any way. I took a small screwdriver, and gently pried one of the sides outward (from the rear of the "boot" where it meets the wire). A very gentle pry and it very easily came off.

What is under there is the wire with circle, and a nut holds it on the post. The plastic thing is nothing more than a boot. If you broke it, you could get a rubber boot to replace, like the old models had.
