replacing bulbs behind climate control?

the display that shows the climate control/mileage etc on my 4th gen is beginning to flicker. i initially stumbled on this thread: Center Console Lights but realized that his writeup was only for the lights and not the actual led display.

anyone have any experience changing these out? thanks in advance.

Yep ... to my knowledge this is specifically targeted at the backlighting on the multi-function display. When mine went out I could still see the information during the day, just couldn't see it at night. Sounds like you've got another problem (short, loose wire, etc.) ... maybe someone else has had a similar experience.
 
What is flickering on the led display, the orange back-lighting? the black text?

The write up above is to fix the orange back lighting on the led display, in addition to lights for each of the buttons and controls.
 
Mine did the same thing for a while. The orange back-lighting would flicker but would get better when I tapped it. Then after about a year of this, the right side orange backlight went out. I have no helpful info, but I am interested to see how to fix this as well.

Do some ****ing reading before you make a useless post.
 
After re-reading the post per sonerick's suggestion, I see that I glanced right over the part that I was looking for. Sorry for my one and only useless post. Thanks to the OP though for the solution.
 
I stopped to pick up a couple of those bulbs Monday, they had just used them. I'll stop by next Monday. Seems like once a bulb went out, I've had to pull the console and replace another every few weeks.

In the third photo you see a large connector that has a plug removed but that connection is not mentioned? That might be from another module that feeds info about speed, gas mileage, air rec ,heated rear window/mirrors etc.
I think the led screen is on the backside of the green circuit board. It is a complete led display in two internal sections.Think of it as a single led plate similar to one on your laptop,cellphone, gps etc. When these go out the complete display must be replaced. There might be some sort of orange led attached to the led (behind the circuit board) to provide back lighting. Would have to remove the board to find out.

It appears that the three /c controls feed the board and the board then feeds the led screen via the large center connector. Also there appears to be 2 screws on the board that connect it to the white mounting plate.

If you have no back lighting it might be the hidden led bulb. If you have no display in the day could be a component on the board has failed or the screen itself.

I could be incorrect in my assessment and would like to hear from someone more informed as this seems to be an eventual problem with led displays..

One minor point ... there are two clear bulbs (part #90010-09017 ) that provide backlighting for the multi-function display and are located on either side of the wiring connector. While only one side of my display was out, I went ahead and replaced both at the same time. As previously indicated, you can pay ~$5 per bulb at the dealership or $2-3 per bulb online. If that's all you need the shipping may make up the difference ...
 
MrEMan , Thanks for the info. I did not see the bulbs you mentioned. Are you talking about the two gray circles with what appears to be screwdriver slots? Looks like you do not have to get into the circuit board to remove them. Will bookmark the thread in case my display ever goes out.

That's them ... a quarter turn and a little coaxing will get them out. Very easy fix ...
 
its the orange backlighting.

sorry...i didn't mean for a "useless post" but the wording on the link i provided made it sound like the guy was only able to change the bulbs on the climate controls and not the bulbs on the display...hence, "i have no idea how to change the leds."
 
that wasn't directed at you, I know what you were asking and I tried to answer your question the best i could. That was in response to post #4 by digphisher. I might have over reacted a little, my bad. just read a whole thread before you post a response, that's all i meant.

I don't want to jump to conclusions here (maybe you need an orange bulb somewhere else), but the correct replacement bulb for the multi-function display is a clear bulb. The end result is still orange backlighting ...
 
Just answered my own question. The DAC button in the center console is a small, pink-ish-lookin bulb. About 2/3's the size of the clear ones for the AC cluster.

Anyone gotta part #?
