Replacing driver seat cushion foam?

Hi everyone,

Just joined the forum after many months of reading and learning. I bought a used 2014 SR5 with 50k miles back in October. Thank you all for the amazing info available here.

The truck is absolutely wonderful and I am delighted with the purchase. The idea is to enjoy it as much as possible until next gen is out (2020 hopefully plus the additional year of fixing any issues with new gen vehicles) and purchase a TRD Pro hopefully in late 2021 or early 2022.

Anyway, i've been fixing a few things with all of the amazing resources in this forum and have not been able to find any info at all relating to the replacement of the driver seat foam.

My foam is showing signs of wear and thought about replacing it. Does anyone have any experience replacing the foam? Is it a "DIY" job?

Anyway, for anyone interested the part number is "Toyota 7150260280" (soft tex only) and you can buy it for USD 200 approx.

Would really appreciate any sort of info on this.

Not impossible but time consuming and super important you have some hog ring pliers and extra hog rings to make your life easier. A 6 pack of beer will easy your pain too

Like cjimen31 said above get the right tools, and having access to the new foam is most of the battle. I've researched this for my excursion and this company puts out lots of videos on the installation of their product. Now they only do videos of toyota's and it's for a tacoma and the sequoia. But watch a couple of them and you'll get the gist of what's going on. All in all it looks very doable and someday I'll get around to doing mine. Good luck. +1. I put in Katskinz leather in my old Taco and the kit came with hog ring pliers that were basically junk. If you do this, spend the extra money and buy a quality set of hog ring pliers.

On my Tacoma Sport, the bottom covers were easy to get off and replace. The backs were a different story; especially trying to remove the headrest guides. You should be able to replace the bottom foam pretty easily IMO.

Okay, will take that into account and report back once i do it (few weeks hopefully). My only real concern is messing electronics such as heated seats, seatbelt sensor, airbag etc etc....

There also seems to be a method, using steam, that gives the foam its "sponginess" back. Not too sure how durable that would be in the long term!

Anyway, if anyone else has other ideas please let me know!
