Replacing speakers on 2014 - Worth it?

I looked into replacing the speaker system on my 2014 SR5 today. It currently has the standard 8 speakers with entune. Sound isn't bad for stock, but obviously, I'm guessing I could do much better. Here is the rundown of what I was looking to have installed:

2 Pairs 6x9 300W Polk Audio
2 Pairs 6.5 180W Polk Audio
4 Channel 600W Polk Amplifier
10" Polk Subwoofer

Speakers and setup totals around $1,300. Based on personal experience, do you think this set up would be a vast improvement over the current speaker set up, and worth the price?

Ya I have wondered that myself. I guess it depends on money and how satisfied you are with whats there. Is a 10% increase worth a grand, don't know...

Well, when you say 10% increase, how do you mean? In quality, volume? Clearly, the quality will be better with better speakers, but the 4Runner's speaker system's biggest weakness is volume. It has a max capacity (I believe) of 70 on the volume meter. To get remotely loud volume via CD, you need to have it turned up to about 40. A bit higher with an ipod. On the radio, forget it. It could be maxed, and still not be loud.

I was thinking quality. I think mine is plenty loud, it doesn't match my MTX subs I had back in the day but it is plenty loud. Have you upped the bass and treble for each input type? You have to do it separately for cd vs ipod vs whatever Were you going to replace the head unit too?

Oh and I found out tonight you can pause and rewind live radio, pretty sweet

Yeah, I changed the settings for each input. No way would I replace the head unit. I have the entune premium system with Nav. Never really pays to change the head unit, at least not if you're buying a new amplifier.

Hi CaptKidd, I agree with you, the only thing I don't love on my new T4R Trail, is the stereo. I have the same one you do. It sounds good, but very weak when you want to crank it up. I was wondering if it is possible to add more power. I've thought about new speakers for sure. Does anyone know who actually manufactures the sound system for these vehicles. The dealer doesn't seem to know. Also, does anyone have experience getting a set of speakers, Bose from a GM product for example, and installing them into my truck? I know this, the next upgrade is going to be the stereo.

Taco tunes might be able to help, I know I have seen co-amps that u run your stereo to and the run good speakers from that, I don't think you want to put a ton more load on the stock amp with high end speakers
