those are day time running lights Toyota has been taking them out of there trucks and SUV because they blind on coming drivers. Also the orange lights are more noticeable than driving lights and are much easier on the eyes. I do feel sorry for you guys up in Canada that have to have them they are meaning less and and seem to cause more problems than solutions. almost everybody I know has them turned off if there vehicle come equipped with them. you can find out more info on DRL at http://www.motorists.org

If a full power headlight is not going to blind me at night a low powered DRL is certainly not going to blind me during the day. And that's experience from 20 years of driving under DRL regs, not anecdotal conjecture by people who have never driven in a DRL environment. And I'm quite happy if the nearly blind driver approaching me, who shouldn't be on the road if he can't see me without DRLs, didn't hit me because he saw my DRLs. After all, it's about getting me home safely, not that other driver.

Standard DRL's are fine. However, the other day while driving my car, I had somebody in a truck behind me who had the high power lights on in the middle of the day and the reflection from the mirror was very annoying. I wouldn't say it was blinding, but it was definitely annoying.
The same can be said when encountering these lights at night - except then they can be very blinding to other drivers whether catching it in the rearview or oncoming down the highway.
