Comes stock with 35s and lockers. Using 35s as your size ratio, this beast is freaking huge

No way. To start selling any diesel would require a tremendous investment in tech training, sales training, parts inventory and supply chains, plus the time (man hours) to do all that. Never happen - the profit from sales would not even come close.
Despite the very few diesel-romantics who claim they'd buy one, even fewer would pony up the (many) extra bucks.
Plus .... remember how Toyota "builds" 4Rs; there would only be a very select few models (never the LE) that get it. And many regions would likely option to not even offer it.
I believe the passenger car diesel is on a decline in NA, from which it will not recover. Absolutely no business case to start from scratch now.

Would love for the 4runner to stay in it's basic configuration it is now (body on frame) but with more power. Unfortunately they will never go for my biggest wish of a solid front axle. In fact I feel Toyota might just go with a unibody and that will be unfortunate. I really hope this does not happen, but Toyota wants to make money and they will follow market trends along with trying to keep up with new EPA regulations. A unibody will be lighter and provide better economy which is the direction Toyota is heading with their vehicles. The new Tacoma for example...what a big mistake. Let's hope Toyota listens to us and not the masses.

I would say...
1.) V8 option.
2.) VINYL FLOORING OPTION LIKE THE FJ HAD.
3.) Move the transfer case lever to the other side of the column, so you're not reaching across the room to pull the lever.
4.) Keep the electric power rear window.
5.) PUT THE CABIN FUSEBOX IN THE SAME LOCATION IT WAS IN THE FJ
6.) Put another 3 prong plug outlet in the center console.
7.) Relocate the steering wheel bluetooth controls, so every time I go to beep my horn, I don't activate the useless navigation woman.
8.) For the Limited trim...a power open/close tailgate. Not for me, but for my mom lol. She really wants to trade her ML350 in for a 4Runner, but she's short and says the tailgate is too heavy/high up for her.

I have a jeep wrangler and have had 6 4runners. I peronally love both. Toyota seems to have lost the recipe. All their cars are bland. The tundra got nothing more than fresh skin. So I would not hold a lot of hope they will give us a complete new model when and if the 4runner is redone. Look at this new Rav. I mean wow. They are really killing it, haha. At this point I think landcruiser is my only choice. The price is high, not sure its 85k worthy. Could buy two vehicles for one. I started thread with hope if somebody did see it just maybe they would know how owners felt.

The next gen 4runner was designed 2-3 years ago. I guess Toyota must have their own high altitude testing area, since I never saw their mules at Pikes Peak, unlike every other manufacturer...
They got together a focus group of representative Toyota owners--i.e. any one of us would have been shown the door.
I am purely speculating, but I'm guessing...
-smaller, higher revving engine with the same or less horsepower with oil consumption issues
-even thinner body panels (I doubt there'll be Aluminium since Toyota has no real track record with putting it in trucks)
-6 or 7 speed transmission that will hunt on flat surfaces like a crackhead for that rock he dropped under the sofa
-plastic fairings, air dams, and other clearance killing shit that adds up to .01 mpg
-probably one drivetrain option (selectable 4WD), full time 4WD kills fleet average economy numbers
-better interiors to match Toyota's goal of de-crapping their vehicle line
-SR5 and Limited at launch, with some "off road" model with minor suspension and body fuggery in a year or two
-ATRAC, hill/crawl control, etc. probably will continue on, since it's Toyota's thing
There will be epic shitposting wars on this site regarding the sheer mediocrity of the changes and people will wonder why Toyota just didn't keep the 5th gen around longer.

Funny Landcruiser. And off I will go to buy another Jeep if all that comes true. Yes a Jeep everyone. A vehicle that holds its value even better than our beloved runners. We are running out of options for sub 50k non girly man SUV duty. Personally I own a Rubicon now and love it.

I miss having storage for my jumper cables, folding shovel, etc. I don't like having to add a box in the space in the back for my recovery and emergency items.
