Reset maintenance light

The light does not do any thing but light up every 5000 miles forcing you to do the reset procedure. It will never alert you to any problems.

Remember, it's a reminder to do scheduled maintenance. With as busiy as everyone is, a little reminder can be a good thing.

Except that most vehicle owners are not as observant as the type of person that would frequent this board. Toyota has to build for the lowest common denominator of intelligence.

Just so there's no confusion, that's the same procedure as I posted in my reply which is posted here on T4R.

Here it is in detail for those who can't be bothered searching...

TSB EL002-03 has these instructions:

1. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position
2. Set odometer/trip display to "ODO" mode
3. Turn ignition switch to "OFF" position
4. Depress and hold the Trip Meter "RESET" button while turning the ignition switch to the "ON" position
5. The service maintenance reminder light will:

i. Illuminate solidly for 3 seconds
ii. Blink for 2 seconds
iii. Illuminate solidly for 1 second
iv. Turn off

6. Release the Trip Meter "RESET" button
7. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position
8. Turn the ignition to the "ON" position and confirm that the service maintenance reminder light goes out.


Sooooooooo....is it different on later model 4th gens than on early models? I would have thought not.

This is why we have irons that warn us not to use it while clothes are being worn. Someone, somewhere must have done that at least once.

I agree.
Since I change my oil more often than 5K, it gets out of sync with oil changes.
One suggestion is to use it to remind you to do other things like rotate and balance the tires, or to throw in a can of fuel injector cleaner...
