Resonator on the exhaust question....

how do u like them???

I've got PIAA 540 city driving lights, logic being I figured the fog lights that are stock work well enough. . .I like them a lot, it' s night and day difference when driving with them, however, it does tend to PISS people off. . .I have them centered so that the cut off line is at the top of most car trunks, so it doesn't glare into their cars. . .

If I did it ALL OVER again, I would've put on PIAA HID's, they sell legal ones now, and are rated at 4300k (the lamp burn temp), which is perfect. . .I like the 600 or 610 HID HID!

The 540's are about 5.2 inches wide, I like the 550's (about 8in wide, and have a low (fog) and high beam (dirving) setting). . .by far the pimpest would be the 525's, they have an LED glow to them when shut off, like what the M5's look like from what I've heard. . . .

ive got the 520's and when i was researching to buy some lights the only one i found that had the led ring was the hellas, but i could be wrong and maybe i was just looking in the wrong place. i decided to go with the city driving also. the light they put out is excellent - its a bright yellow and purple light. they even work well in the daylight

What is the point of the resonator? I'd like to have my exhaust run out the side too. I hate riding with the back window down because I think exhaust is getting in the 4runner.

Not to be too specific, but it is a hollow chamber whose dimensions allow the resonant oscillation of electromagnetic or acoustic waves....:nerd:

When I had it cut off and turned out, I could tell a slight difference in the sound, but it is so slight it is hardly worth noting, but that must be the reason.

I have a question about the resonator... Are there any chrome ones out there? I don't mind the way it looks now, if I could just get a chrome one.

I doubt they make a chrome resonator. i wouldn't want to draw that much attention to it.

Well, I want to do something about the exhaust. I don't really like the side exit. I guess I could just put a tip, but would rather it be welded. Borla only makes the side exit, right?

If you have a good custom exhaust place close by, they could pretty much do it however you like. There are a ton of different tips you could have welded on. If you go to the Magnaflow site you will see a buch and this is just the.....uhmm....TIP......uhh.....of the ice berg.

The exhaust shop used the hanger to help secure the end of the pipe. I think if you did not use it, the pipe would bounce a good bit.

so basically they cut off the resonator, added a piece of bent pipe, and attached a hanger to the pipe to use the existing resonator hanger? did I get that right?

Also noticed while it was on the hoist that there are 2 tapped holes above the stock exhaust exit point. You can attach another rear tow loop (this will also balance out the rear look now that the pipe is gone.) Off to the parts counter we go...

I never did get the part (too expensive.) You could always try a scrap yard. I'm still planning to do custom shackle brackets back there, just don't seem to have the time (low priority.)

hey momo, I've got an appointment to get the mod done this saturday....any chance you could snap a quick picture of the hanger etc. so I can show them how I'd like it done?

I did the same mod as Momo. Take it to a custom exhaust shop that can do stainless. The hanger is straight forward for the shop to figure out. You'll see once it is on a hoist. Hard to get a pic of it from the ground in this weather.

I was wrong. When I got up under there I realized they didn't use the exhisting hanger. You will see in the pics there is a hanger holding it, but I am not sure if that was there before or not. You can see the old hanger not being used. Hope these pics help.

I did this a long time ago. You can see see pictures of it by following the link in my signature. By turning out the exhaust, the sulfur smell in thru the back window also was cut down considerably.
